Hinrich headed to camp: Former KU guard Kirk Hinrich of the Chicago Bulls will be one of 17 players to participate in a Team USA minicamp Friday through Sunday in Las Vegas in preparation for the Olympic qualifying tournament that begins Aug. 22.

It will be tough for Hinrich to make the U.S. team. Guards Chauncey Billups, Jason Kidd and Deron Williams have been added to the roster since Hinrich won a bronze medal with Team USA at last year’s FIBA World Championships in Japan.

Go Kirk! bullssmilie1.jpg Unfortunately, I really think he'll have a tough time making it. I think Deron Williams will make it for sure, but as for Billups or Kidd, I guess it just depends on what kind of PG they're looking for.

I would think Billups is a lock, outside shooting is a big part of international basketball, especially with the shorter line. Granted Kirk can do that to, but Billups is a bit better.

I would expect Kidd to make it too, you need distributors that can defend when you marquee guys figure to be Lebron and Kobe.

Jason Kidd will the starter w/o a doubt

I think kirk could beat out chauncey and deron based on his 3pt shooting and his terrific D. (remember he and Jkidd were the Gs on the second team all-defense) and the ability to defend SGs.

I wouldnt bet on kirk making it over those two, but the coaches and colangelo seem to have a little bit of the skiles/pax man crush thing for kirk. Remember after he refused the invite they invited ridnour instead. Then when kirk decided he wanted to play they just added him anyway.

He did start the last few games last summer too. I think that shows that the coaches put a value on D and shooting and not "needing the ball" like CP3 did to be effective. Which is fine in the nba if ur a point guard, but with Kobe and lebron u dont want a pg to dominate the ball.
