Jannero Pargo has agreed to a one-year deal worth approx $2 million with the Chicago Bulls, a league source told Y! Sports.

Nice pickup for the Bulls. Always liked Pargo's ability to score off the bench. Hopefully he can still do it. He played last year in the Euro Leagues.

Unless they rescind the qualifying offer to Aaron Gray or Roberson, this may well put them in luxury tax territory.

I highly doubt they resign Aaron Gray and Roberson and or Nelson will be gone.

Btw, this is a good signing for the amount of money we had left to spend.

Like this move...

Now move Hinrich for an expiring contract(s) and I'll love it.

Good to be back. Nothing like an off-season suspension to cause problems. I guess I'm not allowed to criticize others but they can criticize any former Bulls players they want. Whatever.

On to basketball. The Pargo signing is a joke. Plain and simple. There were better SG's available but it all came down to price again. I'm glad he only signed a 1 year $2M deal (management finally did something right by not signing a multi-year deal) but I think we could have waited and found a much better deal on the market a month from now. There is a rumor that Jerry Stackhouse is going to be bought out of his contract after a sign and trade for Shaun Marion. If that is true we should try to sign him. But I guess now we won't b/c we don't really have much cap room. I think a SG with the size and experience that he has would have been a nice addition. Of course I would rather have had a Von Wafer or Barnes type player over Stackhouse but Stackhouse would be an upgrade from the shoot first, short, one track minded Jannero Pargo.

Ha, who suspended you?

I'll have to have a talk with the other admins and let them know you are untouchable, Nancy Botwin-style. (Although, you aren't carrying my baby, unfortunately).

Yea, they probably could have gotten a better player by waiting and trying to sign one of the SG's out there, but I'll give them this; whoever they signed needed to be on a 1 year deal for them to have any shot at cap space next offseason. That's an important note. For 15 minutes a game on average, less if Hinrich and Salmons never get hurt, I'll take Pargo and a 1 year deal.

Also, worth noting...if the Bulls wind up in luxury tax territory, they don't just lose the extra $1 per dollar over the tax that the contract would involve, they'd lose somewhere over $3 million in payments from the teams that are paying the tax. So, a $4 million contract would actually be about a $8 million contract. Even I'll admit that's bad business; Signing Von Wafer is not worth losing an extra $5 million.

Guys like Von Wafer and Anthony Johnson aren't out to sign 1 year deals.

I know. But I'm sure if we were patient we could easily have found someone with better size, who is a better shooter, and better defender than Jannero at either the mid-level or for $2M to sign a one year deal. Stackhouse if he becomes available would be an example of such a player. Obviously Wafer or Barnes are going to want long term deals but in this market there might not be many teams giving them out. Their best bet might be to sign 1 year deals at the mid-level (Barnes will be lucky to get that Wafer probably will) play well and then look for more in 2010 when more teams have significant cap room.

Anyway, Pargo could have been had at any point for $2M. There was no reason for us to commit to him. The only reason I can think of is b/c the Bulls wanted to make an announcement on the same day they were loosing BG officially. It was a PR tactic.

That depends. B/C if signing Von Wafer ensures that we are a playoff team or helps us get out of the 1st, or helps us sell more tickets then it really doesn't cause the Bulls to lose money. And the Bulls are the most profitable team in basketball anyway. Jerry should be focused more on putting a winning team on the floor and less on making an extra $8M. He makes enough. The more we advance the more jerseys we sell, the more tickets we sell, the more people watch the games. The revenue stream for winning is much more than losing. Jerry needs to realize that and needs to focus his money on that.

Von Wafer is simply not a "put you over the top" level player. And YOU personally would not walk away from 8 million dollars A YEAR in your pocket, no matter who you are, if the difference is really Pargo versus Von Wafer.

Pargo has always looked like a poor man's Ben Gordon. We just need someone to come in and shoot 3s if Kirk/Salmons get hurt.

But Von Wafer shot a better % from the arc last year than Jannero ever has and Von Wafer does this thing called try to play D and he is much better in transition. And he's 6'5"

If he would sign a 1 year deal and the Bulls could shed some salary in the Portland deal he'd work fine, but he's not going to be signing a 1 year deal and he's not worth blowing our 2010 cap space.
