I'm somewhat excited about the moves we made to get Beli/Foye. Both are good 3 point shooters and offer us some much needed scoring punch to go along with Kirk.

I'd much rather have the backcourt rotation that we now have with the exception that I think we will miss Brewer's D. Hopefully Jimmy Butler is ready to take the next step and be a solid backup SF and hopefully Teague can play well even though he is having a bad summer league.

Anyone know if the 2nd year is a team option? From the articles I read I didn't see any mention of it. The way the Bulls contracts are structured they could clear up a lot of cap space by using the amnesty on Boozer, not exercising Rips deal, hopefully not exercising Kirks option if they have one. Then they should have enough to hopefully add a very good free agent and sign Gibson to an extension.

Either way, in 2 years, Deng's contract will be expiring so hopefully we can either package him or sign him again for much less. Then we add in Mirotic and the 1st rounder from Charlotte (which hopefully will be a top 5 pick) and get one of the top tier free agents and we should be in prime position to end the Heats 4 peat aspirations.

Boozer sucks. End of story. And yes it took me reading about someone defending Boozer to get me back to posting.

If Kirk signs back with the Bulls for anything more than 1 year with a team option on the 2nd I'm officially done posting until he's off the team again.

No thanks unless we get him cheap. We really need a true SG or a combo guard upgrade.

I'm still holding out hope that we can land someone like Billups who could be a very good combo guard and possibly a cheap one year rental that would get us out of a couple of our other contacts. While Billups 6' 6" I think he could still guard many SG's in the league b/c he has a strong build. I also think he would be a great shooter being on the receiving end of Rose created passes. While he is obviously not a long term fix he could be enough to get us deep into the playoffs.

Long term solutions could include A.I.2, Danny Granger, OJ Mayo or others. If we decide to go with A.I.2 I think we need to trade Deng and get someone like Battier in return. A.I.2 is more of a slasher so getting a spot up shooter and defender like Battier would go perfect to round out our lineup.

I highly doubt Rudy Gay would be available but he'd be my #1 choice if we could somehow make that happen. Memphis won't be able to afford Mayo/Gay/Gasol/Randolph/Conley so whether they decide to get rid of Mayo or Gay we need to be in the conversation. I'd also consider trading Noah/Deng if it could net us Gay/Gasol.

Fernandez is a better player (shooter/scorer/passer) and less expensive than most mid-level 1 pick talents plus he already has experience and would have been a huge plus to our team. Instead we'll wait til next year and hope our mid-1st turns into something or we'll trade it mid-season as part of another package.

Keith Bogans... 2 years, $2.5M. Decent pickup for a last guy on the bench.

Not the splash I was looking for but at least we still have all our draft picks. Well be able to use multiple draft picks in a combo with a guard on our lineup, Deng, and Taj to go after Melo around the deadline. I think Taj, Deng, and 2 1st round picks might get the job done.

I'm not arguing that Brewer is a good fit b/c I like him a lot. He's who I wanted the Bulls to draft but instead they took Thabo (Aka Swiss Chocolate). But what can't be overlooked is that Rudy has always been Roys backup and hasn't been given the consistent minutes to be more effective. He's a more capable offensive player than the numbers show bc he's basically only been a 3 point shooter in Portland and he's really never played with a great point guard (Miller) being the best. So I am pretty confident that playing with Rose he'd become a more dynamic player whereas Brewer has already played with Williams/Boozer so he'll be roughly he same guy unless he's serious about becoming a 3pt threat. I'm glad the Bulls got Brewer and Korver bit they could really use another 3pt threat and someone as talented offensively as Rudy. I truly think he's capable of averaging 18ppg if he gets 34+min.

Rose 20ppg
Boozer 20ppg
Rudy 18ppg
Deng 16ppg

That's the kind of offensive breakdown I want to see next year.

I think Portland has always liked Deng so I don't think they'd mind trading for him. I do agree that the deal was in the Bulls favor but they also would be getting 2 players that might not be with the team long term.

Deng/Taj/#1 for Batum is a might high payment even if Deng does get paid well. The changes of them keeping Rudy and Przybilla long term are not good so they might as well capitalize on it if they can. Maybe the Bulls could make the pot even better by adding another #1 or a 2nd rounder. But to think they are going to get a better deal for Rudy isn't likely even if they have to give up Batum. Batum is good but he's no superstar. Taj would fit in perfect as their backup 4. Deng would fit in perfect as the SF and they could land some picks in the deal.

As for Rudy not deserving 24mpg on the Bulls people need to stop with that talk. Rudy is much better than any SG currently on our team. He's a great shooter and passer. Sure he can improve defensively but I think under Tom T. he'd work on that and we'd be a much better all around team with him in the lineup b/c of the problems he causes on offense.

Batum/Fernandez/Przybilla & either Cunningham or Pendergraph for Deng/Gibson & a future 1st.

Bulls should be all over this one. I know we'd be giving up Deng & Taj who are both high quality players but this deal clears up future cap space while also giving us 2 young studs & another very nice defensive big man. The Bulls reportedly tried to trade Deng for Przybilla and someone last year so the deal makes sense. I know that the Blazers value Batum pretty high and righfully so but maybe Deng/Gibson & a 1st makes them willing to part with him.

I think Batum fits our system much better than Deng. Batum is a defensive player that is very unselfish. Him and Brewer on our team would be very nice. Plus Batum hits the 3 at a very nice %. He's not a chucker but he is an unselfish reliable shooter who would fit nicely in our system. I think he's capable of guarding 3's and 2's which is also a nice thing to have. He might even be able to play some 4 when we want to go small.

Noah/Przybilla/Asik/
Boozer/Asik
Batum/Korver
Rudy/Brewer/Korver/
Rose/Watson

If we make this deal I think we then go out and sign a backup 4 and we end our great offseason makeover.

This deal might not happen before the season but if Rudy stays on Portland during the 1st half (which doesn't seem likely at this point) I think a deal b/w the Bulls and Blazers becomes a lot easier b/c then they can add players like Kurt Thomas, Watson, Brewer, Korver into the mix and I'm sure they can find a package that works for the Blazers that includes Deng.

If he's talking win % it's 30 points which is .500 + .300 = .80 = 66 wins. But I don't think he literally meant 66 wins just that we would be significantly better with all of our additions (Boozer being the main one) + him

I think he's talking win percentage. He is confident in his abilities and I think he is saying that with adding Boozer and a healthy T-Mac they'd be close to a 80% winning percentage (above 60 wins). If T-Mac is anything close to what he used to be that is a for sure possibility.

I think T-Mac is saying that he's willing to come off the bench but that he also does not think that should be a given. He wants to compete for the starting job. I would too if I were once an all-star and had to compete against Brewer/Korver/Deng for a starting spot.

All of you act like T-Mac's career is for sure over and that you only want him if he is a bench player. His career may very well be over but we should want him to compete to become a starter b/c at the very least it will make everyone play that much harder. We don't have a for sure SG and Deng isn't that reliable on the injury front either so T-Mac if he's healthier should be able to at least battle for the starting SG spot and hopefully he's good enough to battle for minutes at SF.

T-Mac had a bad year last year but he was just coming off a major surgery. Players have bounced back from such injuries in the past and if he is working out as he indicates he is it is likely that he should have more movement/athleticism this year. Will he ever be the T-Mac of old? Probably not. But if he is healthier and more mobile there he probably is a more well rounder scorer/passer than any SG on our roster. Bring him in with the understanding that he is a bench player but don't rule out the possibility of him becoming a starter if he proves he deserves it. The last thing you need is for him to outplay Brewer/Korver (both bench talents) and then not get a chance to become a starter.

I'd love to trade for Rudy if he's willing to come. He'd be an excellent addition. He's a very crafty athletic player who can hit the 3 with the best of them.

I'd take Ridnour b/c he's a solid all around backup. He played all 82 games last year as a backup and was very solid for Skiles. He averaged 10.4ppg, shot well from the field (47.8%), 3 (38.1%), and averaged 4 apg in just over 22mpg. He's probably the best passer of the bunch.

There are also rumors that the Bucks are trying to unload Sessions who signed to a 4 year $16M dollar deal last year. I think he'd be a good fit off our bench and when playing with our top talent he'd be able to put up good assist numbers. The only thing with him is that he needs to improve his 3 point shooting.

QUOTE (Chicago Bulls Franchise @ Jul 8 2010, 10:26 PM) *
The NBA is over for the next 5 years. Maybe they won't win next year but when they have the MLE every year, they can fill out that roster and all I can say is, good luck. This is a joke and Lebron has to cheat to his way to championships by piggybacking off of Bosh and Wade who are 2 of the top 10 players in the league, not to mention Lebron who's either #1 or #2 depending on if you have Kobe in front of him. I'm devastated that he had to ruin the league like this after deliberately saying that he wanted to do what was best for the league. right... These 3 knew they were going to play with each other this whole time, Wade and Bosh were both just toying with us the whole time and they did a good job of doing it. As far as I'm concerned Lebron will never again be in the discussion for GOAT. If the Bulls are going to contend with this team it's next year because after that, like I said, they will just be way to superior for anybody in the league to contend with once they start signing guys for the MLE.

I don't agree with you. I agree that they won't win next year but I don't think one MLE player makes that big of a difference. The Bulls are going to have opportunities to get better come the trade deadline when teams are looking to unload salary if they can keep some of their cap space.

Players that could be available
Carmelo
Jason Richardson
Monta Ellis
A.I.2, Young, or Williams (Somebody on the 76ers roster will be up for grabs. Probably A.I.2. They think Turner is the future but he's not)

Imagine a lineup of

Noah
Boozer
Deng
Richardson or A.I.2
Rose

That's a pretty nice lineup. And it could be a possibility (just likely not before the trade deadline)

Did any of you see Noah's comments on Sportscenter? I love Noah. Noah hates James. He talked about how it's going to be hollywood down there but how the Bulls have a team that can compete. He looked hungry. I love our new twin tower combo. They are one of the best big man combo's we've ever had and they'll be grabbing all the boards.

We just need to add a few 3 point shooters and a backup PG and we are set.

Maybe we can sign Miller, Brewer, & JJ (though I think he'll stay in Orlando) or maybe we can absorb a nice player from another team willing to dump salary. Is Monta Ellis still available? We just need to be smart and not lock into overpaying a marginal talent. If Miller costs big money then we need to let him go. But if we can get him for $8M per season I think we need to jump on that.

Tom Thibodeau

Noah/Asik
Boozer/Taj
Deng/Johnson
Miller/Brewer
Rose/JJ

That lineup is a good blend of talent and Brewer is a good defender come playoff time. Tom Thibodeau will make sure we play tough D and we'll have the post game and 3 point shooting to put Rose in a position push the team deep into the playoffs and possibly past the Heat.

BTW, I hope Deng is working on his 3 point shot this year. If he can develop that this summer he'll come through in a huge way for the Bulls.

I don't think Lebron will sign in Chicago but I'm happy we got Boozer and that it wasn't for a max deal. That's huge. Even if we don't sign Lebron it still gives us the flexibility to add 2 more very good players.

If Lebron doesn't come we need to sign Ray Allen or Mike Miller. I'd prefer Mike Miller unless we are only signing Allen to a big 1 year or 2 year deal (with the 2nd year being a team option). That keeps us in the running for Melo next year. Then we should consider signing Sergio Rodriguez and Travis Outlaw to solidify the bench. I think Outlaw could be a starter on the Bulls in our system which could allow us to trade Deng for another combo guard and a backup center to add to our depth.

I think if we sign Allen or Miller we are a very solid team and would be capable of competing with and possibly beating any team in the East. I still think the Lakers would probably be too much for us to handle next year but they are an aging team and their windo is quickly closing.

If we get a top 3 I think we'd have to pick Favors and pray he works out. Cousins is a very nice big body and we'd have to consider him as well but he really hasn't dominated the way a top pick should. He could get to the NBA and be a flop. If he hits the weight room and stays in shape he's got the potential to be a top 5 center in the league. The only problem with having him and Noah as our starting bigs would be that neither guy can really shoot the open 15 footer. If we drafted him I think we'd have to put Noah on the market to see what we could get. And I'm not willing to get rid of Noah for Cousins.

This ought to be fun. Can Derrick Rose single handedly beat any team in the league? We're about to find out.
I want to see Rose guarding Howard.

It sounds like Vinny is directly trying to call out Deng for not playing through a minor injury. I wonder if this team is starting to quit on Del Negro. They have all had nagging injuries that he has questioned. They are not playing with as much heart lately. Maybe management wanted this team to be in the lottery again. Everyone knows that we won't be winning any titles this year or with this group unless we add a lot more talent. We traded Salmons to the Bucks and Tyrus to the Bobcats. Both the Bucks and Bobcats are teams that were competing with us for a playoff spot so I somewhat question those moves. Maybe management felt that they still had the talent after the moves to make the playoffs but those moves might help push us into the lottery and might pull playoff revenue out of JR's pockets. If we somehow strike gold again in the lottery and add a top tier free agent this team is set for a long run.

Injuries are a beach. banghead.gif

Anyways, here's my problem: you already have the guard that can create shots. He's not a finished product just yet, but Rose is the perimeter stud you need to win a title, the guy that can get into the paint and score or draw a foul. Everything you do has to be built around him from here on out since he's the one sure-fire championship-caliber piece that you have. Every move you make has to be done with Rose in mind and has to maximize his effectiveness as well as that of the team. That's what Cleveland has done with Lebron; while they don't have the most talented supporting cast, they've surrounded him with guys that will play D and hit jumpers and don't need the ball in their hands to be successful.

If you sign Wade or Lebron, you leave a gaping hole at power forward and add someone that has to share the ball with Rose. That would likely result in both of them being a bit less effective and would make it very hard to win a title. The only team that I can think of ever winning it all without an All-Star caliber big man that can score down low is Michael's Bulls, which is obviously an exception to the rule. Rose also doesn't seem to be the type of guy that can be the supremely versatile second banana that Pippen was.

Wade didn't single-handedly carry his team to contention, he had Shaq helping him out. Wade was/is obviously a dominant player, but without the big guy averaging 20-9 in 31 MPG in the regular season and 18-10 on 61% shooting in the playoffs, he doesn't have a ring. With Shaq hurt/gone, Wade hasn't been able to do much more than make the playoffs in the East.

If you have those two players inside and out, you can get away with a lot at the other positions. The rest of the starting lineup with Wade and Shaq was Jason Williams, Udonis Haslem and James Posey. The rest of the lineup when the Lakers were getting rings was Derek Fisher, Derek Fox and Ron Harper (they had Glenn Rice for one of them). Granted the Spurs had three players with Duncan/Parker/Ginobili, but outside of one year of Stephen Jackson they went with a collection of role players outside of that.

Yeah, Rose and Bosh aren't as good as those guys, but they're both still young and give you a shot at an extended run. If Rose never quite reaches that superstar level it's pretty much a moot point, they're not going to win a title if he has to take 18 shots to get 20 points for his entire career.

I think Bosh is probably joining Wade in Miami anyways, but he really makes the most sense for the Bulls. You make an exception if Lebron wants to come here as he's proven he can be the unquestioned alpha dog on a contender, but that would require a fair amount of roster overhaul to make it work well given none of their role players can shoot.

Zoom, sorry I'm always challenging your basketball IQ. You are a great asset to this message board and to the fantasy b-ball league. Sometimes I speak more out of personal dislike for a player than I do out of reason. I personally don't want Bosh on the Bulls b/c I've never been a big fan of his. Adding Bosh would give us a huge boost down low and would make us a much more well rounded team. I am just worried that neither him or Rose are truly ever going to be legit superstars and I know in this league not having a legit superstar typically equates to not winning any titles. I hope I am wrong about both Rose and Bosh b/c if they are both true superstars and they play together we'd have an excellent chance of winning multiple titles b/c the great teams typically have had 2 superstars.

People said the same thing about Gasol when he was playing in Memphis. If I felt like digging through the archives, I bet I could find a bunch of posts about how Gasol isn't a winner, is a guy that puts up stats on bad teams and doesn't really make a difference, is too soft and is a mediocre defender. Now he has a ring and has a shot at a few more.

It's amazing what an upgrade of your teammates can do, Bosh has had a mediocre supporting cast since he hit his peak. Rose is quite a bit better than anyone he's played with in Toronto, Noah is definitely the best rebounder/defender he would be paired with up front, and you can make a case that Deng is better than any of the wing players Bosh has played with as well (especially since Bargnani has only been an 18 PPG type for about a season total and is officially a big man).

I'm also not sure how "paying him a few mil under a max deal" makes a difference. Seriously, I have no idea where you're going with that. Giving him a deal at an average of $16 or 17 mil a year makes a big difference over $19 mil or so? We'd still be over the cap either way and $2 or 3 mil isn't going to make any kind of difference in a luxury tax situation. They're not going to be adding anyone over the mid level exception if they sign anyone for more than like $14 mil, and they might not even have that in the next CBA. Besides, Kirk comes off the books before Rose is ever due an extension and they'd be nowhere close to the current luxury tax.

No acquisition makes them a lock for a title, not even Lebron. However, Rose/Bosh/Noah is a nice start that probably would make them a top-4 seed every year, and you could have worse guys as a #3 scorer than Deng. They'd still need to find one or two guys that can hit three's, but that's what draft picks and the MLE are for. It's a lot easier to find a wing player or two in the mid-first and in the bargain bin in free agency than it is to find a big man that can score. If they were so inclined, they could also try to use Kirk's expiring deal to get someone in 2011/2012.

All this coming from the guy that said Oden was a for sure lock as a #1 pick. JK. I told you Durant was the way to go. I'll hang that over your head in every argument til the day I die.

Anyway, all joking aside, I see your point. The only problem is I don't think Rose is as good as Kobe so winning a title would be hard with just Bosh. Sure the Bulls would be a lock for a deep playoff run each year I'm just not sold on them being able to beat Lebron or Dwight consistently in the playoffs if all they add is Bosh. Bosh fills up the stats and you could very well be on to something by thinking he'll be better playing around a better supporting cast. I'm not sure if Rose or Bosh are really good enough on their own to carry a team. Preferably I'd like to have a top talent (Lebron, Wade, etc.) or I'd like to use our cap room more productively by signing a PF and a SG if possible b/c I don't think we can overcome the hole at SG if we spend all our cap space on Bosh.

I think adding a Lebron would make us a lock for the title but that's not the point of my post. Is Bosh someone you trust much with the ball in his hands on the last play of the game? Is Rose? Neither has really demonstrated a knack for hitting the big shot at the end of games. Hopefully Rose develops that ability but I'm not banking on that.

As for Bosh being a winner, he's had decent (though not spectacular) talent to play with over his career. I agree with you that Rose/Noah/Deng/Kirk would be the best starting 5 he's ever played with but what bothers me with him is that he hasn't taken over and put a team on his shoulders the way that Wade has. I know that Wade handles the ball a lot and that's why people seem to favor Bosh over him but I look at it like this: What does Rose need to do to become more effective? Become more aggressive! Is there a single player to better learn that from that Wade who is consistently attacks the basket?

Either way, it's pointless to argue b/c I know at the end of the day the Bulls are going to be making a max offer to Bosh. He's been the guy they have coveted for some time. I just hope that if he does come he proves me wrong and the Bulls go on to dominate the East for years to come.

You're strange Edwin. You freak out about how Gibson can't be our answer at PF in the other thread, but suddenly you'd rather have him starting than Chris Bosh? You don't think that just maybe playing in a frontcourt where Andrea Bargnani isn't the "power" forward or center makes a pretty sizeable difference? Over the last three years his PER allowed is around 5 points lower when he's playing PF instead of center. Some, "career year" too, he's averaged 22-10 twice before this and 22-9 twice as well. He's been one of the best big men out there for several years.

PF is easily a bigger concern than SG. You're not winning a title with a frontcourt of Noah and Gibson unless you get Lebron. You need someone like Bosh that can convert at a solid clip inside and get to the line with regularity. It's also far easier to find a serviceable shooting guard than a big man that can score. Johnson is a solid player, but you're basically right back where you were last season if you sign him instead of Bosh.

All I'm saying is that if we pay Bosh a max deal we won't win any titles. If we can get Bosh for a few million a year under a max then sure sign the guy. Maybe playing next to Noah I'd like him more but he just doesn't come across as a winner in my eyes. But I could just be crazy.

I'm not saying that I want Joe Johnson more than a great big man but I'm just saying that I don't think Bosh is the big man we need. I would rather have had Gasol. I guess if we have a chance to sign him we have to make a move b/c we don't get a chance to sign a PF like him that often. I know the Bulls will be going after him with a max contract. That's what scares me. Overpaying for him leaves us with no money to sign anyone else. And then Noah needs an extension and then Rose. How does that play out for Noah?

Anyway,

Noah
Bosh
Deng
Kirk
Rose

That's a very good lineup but would it win a title?

Well if Lebron wants to come to the Bulls and that's a BIG IF, he instantly becomes your #1 target. Otherwise this is how I think the Bulls should be ordering their priorities.

1- Bosh
2- Stoudemire
3- Wade
4- Boozer
5- Johnson

Bosh is a MUST with us. He is the ideal fit for our team. Amare is probably the best for Rose because of the PnR but Bosh is a superior defender and rebounder. Wade is 3rd on my list although he could still be ahead of Amare, but the reason is because he is a bit older than some of the other guys and I think he has a smaller window in his prime than Bosh. I worry that he wouldn't be able to maintain his level of play through a max contract. Especially when you factor in all the wear and tear on his body from his style of play. And what I mean by that is, will he still be the same DWade in his 4th and 5th years of the contract? Bosh is 25 and he's just entering his prime years as a player.

Boozer is a good fall back option because he provides a great PnR player who's also a force down low and on the boards. It would actually be interesting to see if it comes to this option whether the Bulls will try to sign and trade for Joe Johnson and piece him together with Boozer.

The ultimate dream would be a sign and trade with one of Bosh or Wade and then sign the other one outright. OMG. One can dream.. haha

I rank them like this:

1. Lebron - Probably not going to happen unless he wants to one up MJ which Lebron might actually be thinking about.
2. Kobe - Not likely to happen but he can opt out.
3. Wade - Not a fan of having a player that is used to having the ball this much but Wade is a top scorer and playmaker which is what we need.
4. Johnson - I think having a legit SG is our biggest need. Johnson would be a great fit next to Rose. He provides outside shooting that the Bulls really need as well as someone that can hit the last shot. Plus he's big and would improve our defense.
5. Bosh - I'm really not a fan of Bosh b/c I think he's soft but he is a good scoring big man and maybe next to a workhorse like Noah he'd really excel. I really don't think he's work a max contract and I think that's what the Bulls would have to give him to get him to come here. Sure his rebounding and scoring numbers are excellent this year but do you think that has anything to do with this being a contract year? I find it interesting that he has averaged well below 10rpg several seasons during his career and then during a contract year he has a great year both shooting the ball and rebounding. Anyway, he's not a leader and this idea that he plays good defense is the first I've ever heard of. Sure his D is probably a notch better than Amare's but he's no shutdown PF. Stats are not everything but his blocks and steals leave a lot to be desired. Anyway, this is saying a lot but I'd rather keep Taj Gibson as our starting PF next year than pay Bosh a max contract. We won't win a single title if all we add to Rose is Bosh.
6. Amare - I think some of his defensive problems would be masked by Noah's D. He's a great slashing big man that can hit the open
7. Manu - If we don't get a top tier SG or SF then I think Manu is the perfect short term fix at the SG position for the Bulls. You add him to a combo or Rose/Deng/Noah and either Bosh or Amare and you have a well rounded offense. If we don't get a top SG I really hope we give Manu a hard look.
8. Camby - I think if we sign a player form the top 4 above Camby would be a great 1-2yr addition if we want to compete for titles in the short run.

I have zero interest in Boozer unless you can get him very cheap (under $9M per year). Mark my words. He'll get hurt and miss a majority of next year. He only tries to show up in contract years.
