It's 2011, less than 2 months to the deadline, so it's time to get this thread up.

Bulls are in on Sacto SF Omri Casspi.
QUOTE
Among the teams that have registered interest in the NBA’s first-ever Israeli: Chicago and New York.

The Bulls, in particular, like Casspi not only for his ability to shoot but also his experience in pressure situations after playing at the highest levels of the Euroleague with Maccabi Tel-Aviv as well as his defensive potential, believing that the energetic swingman would develop nicely on D under the guidance of Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau. The bonus: Casspi is shooting 40 percent from 3-point range this season – up from 36.9 percent as a rookie – to further squelch his pre-draft rep as a non-shooter.

Yet there are obstacles for interested parties. Casspi is also a favorite of Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof. Sources say Sacramento, furthermore, would likely insist on attaching a long-term contract from the Kings' roster (such as Francisco Garcia's) for the right to acquire Casspi, who’s earning a bargain $1.25 million this season. That could dissuade both the Bulls and the Knicks, with New York especially mindful of preserving salary-cap space for the summer.

It’s likewise true, from the Bulls’ perspective, that Casspi would give them another shooter but can’t really be classified as a shooting guard, which is the position Chicago has been openly looking to upgrade with Ronnie Brewer and Keith Bogans as its current primary options.

The Chicago Tribune reported earlier this week that the Bulls have also expressed interested in Rockets guard Courtney Lee, who earns a similar salary ($1.35 million) to Casspi's. The shooting guards previously linked with Chicago – Denver’s J.R. Smith ($6.8 million), Charlotte’s Stephen Jackson (in the first season of a three-year, $28 million extension) and Memphis’ O.J. Mayo ($4.5 million) – have all been all pricier.

I really can't understand why they would even consider trading Casspi...

No thanks unless we get him cheap. We really need a true SG or a combo guard upgrade.

I'm still holding out hope that we can land someone like Billups who could be a very good combo guard and possibly a cheap one year rental that would get us out of a couple of our other contacts. While Billups 6' 6" I think he could still guard many SG's in the league b/c he has a strong build. I also think he would be a great shooter being on the receiving end of Rose created passes. While he is obviously not a long term fix he could be enough to get us deep into the playoffs.

Long term solutions could include A.I.2, Danny Granger, OJ Mayo or others. If we decide to go with A.I.2 I think we need to trade Deng and get someone like Battier in return. A.I.2 is more of a slasher so getting a spot up shooter and defender like Battier would go perfect to round out our lineup.

I highly doubt Rudy Gay would be available but he'd be my #1 choice if we could somehow make that happen. Memphis won't be able to afford Mayo/Gay/Gasol/Randolph/Conley so whether they decide to get rid of Mayo or Gay we need to be in the conversation. I'd also consider trading Noah/Deng if it could net us Gay/Gasol.

I don't see the Bulls making any deals until right up at the deadline due to Noah's health. We're spread too thin inside without Jo inside and if we want to deal for a SG or another shooter....if we want any significant upgrade to what we already have, we'd need to deal Taj. I'm totally against dealing Taj, but teams will want Taj when they see the Bulls on their caller ID, period.

I don't think the Bulls will deal Taj at any point during the season, but if they do...Noah has to be healthy in order to do so.

A deal I would do once Jo gets back...

Brewer, Asik and JJ for Stephen Jackson.

Word is out around the league Charlotte is trying to shed dollars and this is certainly an avenue MJ would be willing to exhaust. The discouraging number for Stephen Jackson is that he's owed 10 million in 2012. I believe Jackson has a great immediate impact this year and next year as he would buy into Thibs' system immediately and fit Rose like a glove. Charlotte may want draft picks, but they'd probably be happy to shed the 10 mil owed to Jackson in '12 w/o any picks in the deal.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge wasn’t kidding with his recent proclamation that the Celtics want to make a deal before the deadline.

The Celts, according to sources briefed on Boston's thinking, have joined their conference rivals from Chicago in pursuit of Cavaliers swingman Anthony Parker.

The Celts covet an extra playoff-tested shooter/defender as much as the Bulls, with Marquis Daniels out indefinitely and Delonte West missing much of the season so far. Yet it remains to be seen whether either of the two teams is willing to meet Cleveland's asking price.

The Cavs are seeking a quality draft pick or a young big man with promise in exchange for Parker, who’s averaging 11.5 points and shooting 47 percent on 3-pointers in February.

As much as the Bulls need another shooter- they can't get into a bidding war for Anthony Parker. He isn't worth it.

I mentioned in the Mayor or Rip thread Parker seemed to make the most sense to the Bulls as he SHOULD be had on the cheap. Maybe Cleveland won't answer the phone when they see Ainge's number on the caller ID due to bad blood from playoff wars.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Bulls traded former first-round pick James Johnson to the Toronto Raptors for the Miami Heat’s 2011 first-round pick. Well according to a report that pick could be flipped for Courtney Lee.

And the Bulls lay a giant egg on deadline day. The refusal to part with career backups in Taj Gibson and Omer Asik is just laughable.

I agree with the fact that they laid an egg, but not because they didn't deal Taj or Asik. We know how poor Boozer is defensively and we NEED another player to come in and play if Booz can't get it done offensively that night. Besides, Asik looks like a stud and could very well be our man in the middle should Noah's durability continue to come into question. I don't believe we'll have to resort to that (Heaven forbid it would), but I am VERY happy Asik is still a Bull after the deadline.

The Bulls laid an egg because they didn't pick up another shooter to play along side Rose. Tonight's game was a classic example of the fact that the Bulls can't shoot from deep. 4-21 after Korver and Deng made the last two 3's the Bulls took. You can't tell me Parker couldn't have been had for a 2nd rounder, but then again...Parker is still in Cleveland so who knows.

We may have to wait and see what happens here as players WILL be bought out. The Bulls may have felt it is worth picking someone up for free.

QUOTE
But according to multiple league sources, the Bulls aggressively pursued Grizzlies shooting guard O.J. Mayo, offering Ronnie Brewer, two first-round picks and one second-round pick.

The Grizzlies rebuffed the offer, attempting to deal Mayo to the Pacers for forward Josh McRoberts and a first-round pick. However, the league office didn't approve that trade because it came after the 2 p.m. deadline.

There's a longstanding theory Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley, who has a home in the St. Charles area, doesn't like doing business with the Bulls for competitive reasons. Whether that factored into the Grizzlies turning down what appears to be a more substantial offer than that of the Pacers is unknown.

That's not that bad a package really. Having Noah back SOMEWHAT lessens the need for Asik...the guy has some value. But I still don't get why they didn't offer up either Asik or Taj. If Brewer steps up we should be ok. Hope it doesn't come back and bite us in the ass tho. Kurt's done pretty well...but for some reason the team is pretty high on Asik and want to keep him. Well see if a deal can't be done done the road here.

If we called Memphis- I would bet my retirement they demanded Taj for Mayo. I can't blame them for doing so and telling the Bulls a deal wouldn't be done unless Taj was included. That sounds like a fair stalemate to me....and I commend the Bulls for not dealing Taj. Maybe we'll regret it in this year's playoffs, but I'm glad they value Taj that much.

The Bulls went into the deadline without as much leverage as they initially thought. Teams around the league know they needed a shooter more than anything, but the Bulls pretended not to see it that way apparently. I do believe the Bulls are confident they'll get a player who is bought out, though. At least I hope so.
