Yeah, they are both good defenders (shaq was until a couple years ago) and that reinforces my point. THey are both amazing post players on both sides of the ball. The two years in the fnals where it was Hakeem v. Ewing and Hakeem v. Shaq i saw more shots swatted then than the rest of my life put together.

But those world beaters are a dying breed. I think you will see the future a lot more like Randolph (O) and pryz (D) and Webber (O) and Dalembert (D) and Nowitzki (O) and Damp/diop (D). I could go on. We needed the O, pax didn't see the right guy, so now we have a better D. We'll see. I don't think Pax would've come out of the draft without a post scorer if he didnt have a target this offseason.

My gut says he thought aldridge might get us to be the 4 seed instead of the 7th, but wouldn't make us a champion. I hope to hell he is right.

I meant Jermaine O'Neal.

There are still quite a few guys that are at least decent on both sides of the ball. Guys like Duncan, Garnett, Brand, Jermaine O'Neal, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire when he's healthy, Chris Bosh, and Brad Miller are all pretty good all around. Even Dirk isn't as bad as he once was defensively. Plus you still have Oden on the way, and when they develop it's conceivable that Aldridge, Thomas, or Bargnani join that group.

The way the NBA is played now I don't think that you need to have a dominant guy who can score in the post. I think Paxson went with Thomas knowing that Nazr Mohammed and Joel Przybilla woud be available in free agency to at least be a presence at center.

I did get pretty excited when I saw the highlights of Thabo Sefolosha.

Sefolesha was an oustanding pickup. He's a very good defensive player that can play any of the wing positions for us and that is something we truly lacked. Thomas is going to play a type of Hybrid position for us and I still think Chandler is on his way out (at least a decent shot of that happening).

We got a lot more talented tonight and picked up the best "athlete" in the draft while getting a pretty solid player from the Blazers (in terms of "talent").

Thats giving one of the best "fundemental" coaches in the league some talent to mold and I think thats always a good thing. Pax knows this team is still a couple years away from winning this baby and I Think he's got a plan on using our next years pick on our future center, but between now and than he wants to get us our other pieces as well as some quality vets (that can help us now) so that this team can grow into being more than just a playoff team, but into a title contender.

Pax sees the big picture and I think he's putting us in the right direction right here. We get better now, but really have a shot at getting better in the future.

Now that I have cooled off, I must admit, that I am starting to warm up on Thomas. Even though thats an oxymoron, it's true. Altough I still feel that Aldridge was the better fit and would help us more immediately, Thomas' upside is inevitable. Though rare, there are a few things I like about Thomas.

First, and obviously, I like his athleticism and length. He's got the athleticism that can make up for his lack of size. He will definitely need to add some bulk, but I think that he'll be able to overcome that and I see him being a Kenyon Martin type of player.

Second, I love his desire. In all the video's I've seen, he plays with a passion that is so evident and I really like that. He's emotional and brings a lot of energy to the team. He's one of those guys who can bring a croud up and give the team some momentum. That ability he has to block a shot, run down the court, and slam down an alley oop is spectacular and that's the type of stuff that gets a team and a player motivated. Those are what lead to those 14-2 runs to finish a quarter. That an area where the Bulls lagged. They finished the quarters off weak, and Thomas will help improve that.

Third, it seems like his head is on straight. Skiled will be able to mold him into exactly what we want because he is willing to learn and willing to get better. You can't disagree with that.

Now with that said, don't throw me on the Thomas bandwagon yet. Sure, he's a Bull (for now) and I will root for him, but he has to prove to me that he belongs in the NBA and that he will work hard to make the Bulls a contender.

As far as Sefolosha, I always liked that pick and I have said that I believe he'll be the starting SG for the Bulls by the end of the season. He's a Pietrus type guy who has arguably more upside.

I also agree that Pax see's the big picture. I have to compare him to Kenny Williams. He knows the type of team that he wants, and he's adding the peices to the puzzle to get us a championship. So, bring on Free Agency!

Hey, my 1000th post! cheers.gif

What are the odds Pax can swing a deal for Brad Miller? Of all the Centers out there, his kind of play could fit in well with the bulls [the 2nd time around]. It probably wouldn't work w/o involving guys better than Sweetney and Duhon.

I'm not really sure. I was just throwing names out there, we'd have a hard time getting most of those guys.
