5 years - 23 mil
QUOTE The Washington Wizards signed free agent forward Darius Songaila to a five-year, $23 million dollar deal, Songaila's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com.
Songaila's deal includes a player option for the fifth year of the contract. Songaila is a skilled four man with a sweet outside shot and the ability to go inside and bang. The move means that it's now very likely that the Wizards' first-round pick, Olexsiy Pecherov, will return to Europe for another season, a source close to the Wizards confirmed to ESPN.com. The moves use the up the majority of the Wizards' mid-level exception, with Songaila's deal taking up around $4 million of Washington's $5.135 million mid-level exception. Chad Ford covers the NBA for ESPN Insider. |

Well I wish Songalia the best of luck. He was solid for us, had a rough injury, but is overall a pretty solid player with some offensive skills. I dont' think he's worth what they paid, but the Wiz could use a decent low post scorer and an overall smart player.

Washington has no problems scoring, probably would have been better off signing someone more defensive minded down low.

Wow, he sure got a big paycheck. Didn't know the Wizz were interested but they get a helluva player.

I figured Haywood, Thomas and the rest of there no offense bigs were more in the defensive mold but your right they could use a good defensive guard or something, although a big that could score a bit is nice for em. Of course I guess some people consider Jamison a big and he can score. |

I really like Songaila but he was expendable, especially at that price. Can't blame him for leaving when he signed for all that bank.

I think this is a good move for Washington, though I'm glad we didn't resign him. That would have been too much money for a guy who wouldn't have gotten the kind of minutes he would have wanted.

wow, that is a huge contract but nonetheless I wish him the best. He could really help the wiz out with some mid range jumpshots here and there. He really had no purpose here anymore so im glad hes somewhere else where he can produce and get some minutes.

I thought it was worthless?
Granted anything more than a few million a year is too much, but he should get a chance to contribute in Washington. |
