We may not this year...(although we have a really freaking good shot at it, esp. in the East), I see no reason at all why this team can't get 5-10 games and a round or two better in the playoffs next year as well.

With this team????? I dont think so. We have no inside scorer AT ALL. Pj Brown is worthless (For scoring) Malik Allen can be released as far as im concerned, he can't jump which is probably my best guess on why he can never get a rebound without it falling in his hands. Unless the big 3 (Kirk,Ben, and Deng) have great nights, there is no way this team can win a playoff series. No Way!! The Playoffs are about easy baskets and this team can't get that when you shoot jump shots. Pau would give us 5-7 easy shots a night which lead to 10-14 points that might not have been scored regularly. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that this team is only a piece away from becoming a contender in the East. Wallace only has 1 or 2 good years in him left so Pax should make a move for him and give up what is necessary unless its the 2 core players and we will become a force in the East.

Some people say Pau isn't a consistent rebounder and is lazy on defense. We don't need anymore defense, we have more than enough. Pau is a great counterpart to Wallace because alls he has to worry about is scoring and Wallace does his dirty work like usual. The two of them together would thrive off each other and it would lead to Pau probably upping his average to around 20-25 ppg with offensive rebounds and put backs from Big Ben's 2 foot misses tongue.gif

The more the days pass the more Im begging for Gasol. I realize Paxson doesn't want to part ways with the so called "Core" or mess with the chemistry but this team doesnt have great chemistry to begin with. They still are among the tops in the league in turnovers per game and they have no fluid offense because they dont have a set offense. It's all predicated on screens and drive and kicks.

But if you were Jerry West and your team sucks wouldn't you think about totally revamping the team and giving away your best player for a good future star in Deng or Gordon. Plus an expiring contract in PJ Brown and also a first round draft pick that would probably be top 10-15 to build through the draft and make Rudy Gay your franchise player.

But think for a second if we did give up Deng and Gordon for Gasol and say Warrick. How much would that effect our team in a positive way? My guess on the new starting SG is as good as yours. I would assume it'd probably be Thabo. Then you would insert Nocioni to the SF and obviously Gasol and Wallace at PF and Center.

*PRAYING* PLEASE PAXSON, BRING US GASOL! pray.gif

Heres what the papers are saying -

Gasol? Randolph? NBA rumor mill getting into high gear

February 21, 2007
BY BRIAN HANLEY Staff Reporter
If a team is in the market for a middling player who has a long-term, big-money contract, there are numerous deals to choose from as the NBA's 2 p.m. Thursday trade deadline looms.
The Bulls are not interested in acquiring such an onerous commitment, but they would consider taking on a rich contract for a starter who could fill their interior scoring need.

Bulls general manager John Paxson dislikes having his players' names bandied about in trade rumors, so he wouldn't be happy to hear the one making the rounds at the United Center on Tuesday. The unsubstantiated talk was that a package including Chris Duhon, Tyrus Thomas, Andres Nocioni, and a first-round draft pick could seal a deal for Memphis Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol.

As for a report that the Bulls could get Zach Randolph from the Portland Trail Blazers without losing a young talent such as Ben Gordon or Luol Deng, Blazers president Steve Patterson laughed before telling the Portland Tribune, ''Guess again.''

''We don't have any interest in trading Zach,'' Patterson said.

Some teams likely will have interest in the expiring $8 million contract of P.J. Brown. The veteran forward, who has backed off his early-season desire to be traded, said he is prepared for whatever happens before the deadline.

''I've been through this many times, so I'll be prepared to play [for the Bulls] at Cleveland, no matter what,'' he said. ''That's ... my game plan.

''Trade rumors are trade rumors. My name has been involved in a lot of stuff -- different teams, different years -- so all I can do is wait and see. If I'm wanted, I'll be here. If I stay, I'll look forward to that and hopefully help us get to the playoffs. If something happens and somebody else wants me, it's going to happen. That's the business end of it.''

FORWARD PROGRESS?

Nocioni missed his seventh consecutive game with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

''He's just not quite ready,'' coach Scott Skiles said. ''It's a little stiff, not as sore today. If we can get him through tonight, maybe he can practice a little [today] and get a real good read on him. He may go half the practice, depending how it feels.''

Nocioni did some significant running Tuesday for the first time since being out and could be ready to play at Cleveland on Thursday.

''He was doing laps, he was changing direction,'' Skiles said. ''So it's just a matter now of getting him cutting, getting him up to full speed, things like that. I'd imagine it would be soon, a couple days away if he doesn't have a setback.''

Trade deadline likely to pass minus splash

By K.C. Johnson
Tribune staff reporter
February 20, 2007, 10:51 PM CST

If the Bulls had met expectations to this point, this trade deadline week would have carried no drama.

As it stands, there is little, as talk around the league suggests the Pau Gasol talks are all but dead unless the Grizzlies drastically lower their asking price by Thursday.

General manager John Paxson is said to be contemplating several smaller deals for players with long-term contracts but ultimately comes to the same conclusion: None of them make the Bulls appreciably better and would damage the organization's fiscal plan.

That means on Friday this group should be largely intact. Do they have enough to win?

"I think so," Luol Deng said. "We have a good group. We just have to focus in and play more consistently."

Added P.J. Brown: "This is a playoff team. This team has a chance to do some good things. When you get to the postseason, it's a brand new year. We can make some noise. We know who the tough teams are in this conference, the Detroits, the Miamis. It's going to be a hard road no matter where you're seeded. But I like our chances as much as anybody else's."

Both Deng and Brown are sick of addressing rumors and, when pressed, admit they will be happier once Thursday has passed. But Deng downplayed a theory that the Bulls would want to reward Paxson's faith in this squad if he stands pat.

"The GM has to do what is best for the team," he said. "It's not about whether you're friends or not. If he thinks we're a better team without moving anything, maybe he thinks players will be better in the future. That's just him doing his job."

Close, but not quite

Despite doing some end-to-end running during individual pregame warmups, Andres Nocioni missed his seventh straight game because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

The Bulls face a stretch of four games in five nights starting Thursday in Cleveland, although coach Scott Skiles said that isn't why Nocioni sat.

"He's just not quite ready," Skiles said. "It's a little stiff, but it's not as sore. We feel like if we can get him through [Tuesday], maybe he can practice a little [Wednesday] and then we can get a real good read. He was running, doing laps, changing direction. It's a matter of getting him cutting full speed."

Apparently the J-Kidd deal to the Lakers is hinging on the Nets ability to also deal Vince to the Clippers in an all or nothing situation.

I wouldn't count on a deal getting done. We might do something small, but I doubt it. The Bulls are dead set against breaking up the core, as well they should be. If history has taught the Bulls anything, its that we should not trade away these kids too early.

Brown to dallas. i'm not sure what they could really offer us though...

Bulls Notebook
Mavericks showing interest in Brown

February 21, 2007
By Paul Ladewski Staff writer

Bulls forward P.J. Brown had one of his best performances of the season at both ends of the court in a 96-85 victory over Dallas last month.

Apparently, Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson and owner Mark Cuban haven't forgotten it.

The Mavericks are said to be one of the teams interested in the 37-year-old Brown in advance of the trade deadline on Thursday afternoon.

"I haven't heard that, but it's an interesting possibility," said Brown, who added of the perks of a Cuban-owned team, "They got a great record and a nice locker room. They got lots of nice things there. I wouldn't have a problem with that."

Brown didn't hurt his stock with seven points and five rebounds in the first half against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night.

"It's good to hear my name mentioned anywhere because it means that I'm wanted,'' Brown said. "I still got some game left."

If no deal is made, Brown is prepared to spend the final months of his contract in Chicago.

"If it doesn't happen, I got no choice," said Brown, who expressed disappointment in his reduced role earlier this season. "I'll be ready to play and play hard and do what I have done the last several weeks.

"This team has a chance to do some good things this year. The postseason is a brand new ballgame. Anything can happen."

At this point i don't see a trade happening... Pax will just adress this need via free agency or trade during the offseason.
Who is to say this team can't catch fire during the 2nd half of the season and make a decent run in the playoffs? This team is not yet championship worthy, but pending on what Pax does this offseason they will be next year. Pau Gasol is damn good. But he is NOT worth 2 core players. He is worth 1 core player, a first round draft pick and maybe a mid-level player like P.J. Brown or Malik Allen. Maybe Jerry West will come to realization w/ that right before the deadline and pull a deal. He has to look to the future, if you can get a guy like Gordon and have 2 high draft picks for next year, your team will be a very good young team next year. THey can have guys like Gordon, Gay, Noah or Odgen to build around.

I know it's not the best of options but what about talking to the Kings about Brad Miller?
