TalkBulls Forums _ The Archives _ Bulls/Pacers Game Thread

Posted by: sport1016 Jul 10 2006, 08:59 AM

Today is the Bull's summer league debut which can be seen at 2pm on orlandomagic.com

Some things to think about and discuss prior to the game

-What position does Tyrus play at?

-Does Thabo have the potential for lockdown defense and the handle to play some pg? Does he have enough offense to ever be a starting SG?

-Will Luuuuc make the team as our only 7-footer?

-Does anyone else on the roster have a chance to surprise us and make the team? (like duhon a couple years ago) A 3rd PG if Thabo cannot handle it?

-A chance to size up a lot of players we have talked about leading up to the draft

guys on other rosters of interest include:
Charlotte
Adam Morrison-wally sczerbiak or larry bird?
Sean May-can he sustain UNC success after injury plagued rookie year

Indiana
Danny Granger-Can he step up to fill Peja's void
James White-Was he the defensive SG we should have taken?
Shawne Williams-Intriguing and versatile prospect

Miami Heat
Vincent Grier-Well, I go to U of I and have a soft spot for big 10 players
Daniel Horton-another big ten guard, good defensive guard
Kevin Pittsnogle-Have YOU ever been pittsnogled? A shooting big, we could use 1

New Jersey
Marcus Willaims-best PG in college

Orlando
James Augistine-One of best rebounders in big ten history, AND he has can post up
Marco Killingsworth-don't we need another low post scorer? Even at 6'7?
Gerry McNamara-The simon birch of the NCAA
JJ Reddick-Can he play in the NBA? Not yet...being held out for at least some games bc of his back

IF augistine or killingsworth didn't make the magic (and at least one won't) I would like to see one of them at the end of our bench, especially augistine

this is kick ass that the magic are showing these games. it should be adopted league-wide. i know my other computer will be tuned into this game.

Definately think that Cedric Banks and Eddie Basden are going to play well in this summer league. If Banks was a little taller and stronger we could definately use his athleticism at the SG. Another name to look at is Chevy Troutmans who is a good player but is undersized.

Drago Pasalic played well for us in the 2004 Summer Camp and if he has bulked up and plays well he might earn a spot. He has a decent shot and he has a few years of oversees professional experience. Can't wait until 2:00p.m

Anyway, if any one of these players excel that would be a bonus. However, like the rest of you my eyes will be planted on Thabo and Tyrus. I also would'nt mind seeing if Luke has improved or bulked up at all.

Big Daniel Horton fan, kid is a stud. I think he has the ability to plat at a high level in the NBA. I'm not really sure why he wasn't deserving of being drafted.

Do you know if he is playing summer league ball. I didn't see him on our roster?

Posted by: sport1016 Jul 10 2006, 10:17 AM

Horton is playing for Miami.

He probaably wasn't drafted bc he's another one of those guys who plays harder than his ability. He actually reminds me of skiles in that respect. He is tough and hard nosed and all that, but may lack the talent to get noticed by GMs on draft night.

I could see him as a reserve in the NBA IF the right opportunity presents itself. I would rather have him than pargo.

Banks, UIC's all-time leading scorer with 2,097 points, just finished a standout season overseas. The 6-foot-3 guard was named MVP of the French Pro B League in his rookie campaign after leading his Besancon squad to a regular-season title, averaging over 20 points per outing.

I'm having the same problem sport. Hopefully it will be at 100% when the game starts because the Magic website it says games will not have a live feed until the game starts, so I don't know.

the warmups could have not been live bc it looked like the magic and not the bulls or pacers

same thing happening to you or not?

Posted by: SoxFan1 Jul 10 2006, 01:07 PM

So far I am impressed with Thabo. He has shown so good ballhandling skill, good defense, and a nice jumpshot.

Tyrus, not so much. But they do work well together. Just a misscommunication on that pas.

So far Tyrus' offense has been brutal outside of about 3 feet, which was to be expected. Looks decent on the boards, not much of a factor defensively.

Miles is looking like a guy that could stick in the NBA

but sadly no chance with the bulls

he looks SO small

and bc thabo looks like he can play point, we don't need another pg

he has really been playing like a 5'10 SG like dee brown used to paly alongside deron williams. Deron (like thabo) was bringing the ball up and running the offense, but Dee did a lot of the scoring

we don't need another short scorer

but after the summer league i would expect a team with scouts here that needs a backup pg to invite him to their training camp

BTW that was an awful kick out by tyrus he looks lost out there mostly

Theoretically Miles is about 6'0", not sure how accurate that is though. I would definitely consider hanging on to him and letting him play in the D-League. He's very quick, and was a solid pass-first PG at Kansas.

Edit- yikes, 6'2" according to the roster. Definitely should try to retain his rights.

It'd be nice if he looked competent for more than a few plays. He's VERY raw and looks lost most of the time. That's the kind of guy we drafted, and we're going to have to live with it.

I don't know that it will, this happened at LSU a lot too. I'd bet this will be typical of his first couple of years: flashes of brilliance mixed with lots of mediocrity. I do expect his defense to be better though, he hasn't looked too good today.

For the most part. Had some nice boards, a nice block or 2, and a couple big dunks. But his jumper was off and he looked quite lost on the court. Made some bonehead plays throwing the ball away, getting it stolen, but for the most part, nothing that cant't be fixed. He didn't play horribly but he didn't play good either.

Basically exactly what you can expect from him. All those people that said he had a jumper...lol

anyone know where you can get a box score on these games? can you?

Posted by: Butterbean10 Jul 10 2006, 03:25 PM

Not me. I expected a raw rookie to play like a raw rookie (1/2 year of college ball). I expect a lot of this during the season. All we can hope is that it doesn't happen at crutial times. Also, the talent level he will be playing with will be a bit more, therefore some of these mistakes can be covered. Remember, we didn't draft a 'play me now' player. We drafted for the future. He will be OK. I just don't want another Chandler, and I don't think he will be.

That's basically what was expected. His statline will look decent (I think like 12 points, 7 boards or so), but he wasn't exactly dominant. He's still very raw, so he's going to have some rough stretches. His offense was non-existant outside of 3 feet and he made some bad turnovers and fouls, but we knew that was coming. I wasn't that impressed with his defense either. He was an imposing shot-altering force in the NCAA tournament, which we didn't really see tonight.

Exactly. He was bad. But I'm not terribly worried. I don't think he's gonna win rookie of the year or anything but one summer league game doesn't mean he can't be productive at all this year.

He should be dangerous in stretches off the bench. He'll be a good energy guy that can play some D, rebound, and make some hustle plays. I just wouldn't expect him to do too much more.

supposedly his jumper is very streaky... in that he can hit a jump shot but goes through cold streaks.... Still it was only 1 game so cant really conclude anything yet.

This is all I got so far...

"First round Draft picks Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefolosha combined for 26 points as Chicago won its opener at the Pepsi Pro Summer League on Monday, topping Indiana 93-88. Aaron Miles led the Bulls with 19 points, while David Harrison and James White each scored 17 points for the Pacers."

He isn't better than Chandler yet but I'd say within 3 years, he will be.

i dont think its gonna take him 3 years to average 5points and 9 rebounds, which is what tyson averaged this last season

will he be #1 in the league in rebounds per minute...]

Will he grab offensive board after offensive board in the waning seconds of the game to buy our guys 3 or 4 chances at the game tying 3?

Will he save a few games every year with his huge blocks in the final minutes?

Will he drop countless passes from Kirk Hinrich?

Will he come in to the season without doing anything all summer?

Will he get a 60 millions dollar contract and then quit trying?

Will he averaged 5 fouls a game?

Well, you are wrong there. He saved 1 game against the Celtics with a block on Pierce in the last seconds of the game...which I turned into a wallpaper...
