Watching the end of the game in Hot Lanta last night made me wonder how in the world referees in any of today's professional sports retain their jobs year in and year out. I forget if it was at the end of overtime or the end of regulation and a Hawk player was driving towards the basket. I believe that it was Kirk defending and the Hawk player stumbled and fell into Kirk and Kirk got called with blocking when it was obvious that the Hawk's player tripped over himself and in turn it would have appeared to have been either traveling or charging that should have been the call. It just seems that many times a game that the Officials take the game away from the players. If it is not obvious, then the fouls should not be called. Let the players play the game and make sure you know what you are calling. It seems unfair that games that the better teams should be winning are becoming close contests because the refs are making questionable calls. I know that when I was in the work place, I had to be accountable for my actions and it seems to me that Umpires and Referees do not get held accountable for what they do during the respective games. What do you think about the refereeing in professional or even college sports?

I'm sure they reprimand and punish officials for bad calls, but I'm sure they do it behind closed doors. But I agree, it's something that needs to be improved... I think poor officiating is a reason for the NBA's decline in america. |

The Refs have done a pretty good job this year, imo. I like how they've taken back control of the game and tried to create more respect from the players. Nothing I hate more than watching guys consistently whine and complain to the refs.
That said obviously refs make mistakes and in sports like football and basketball there is a major gray area on a lot of calls to the fact that some guys would call them, others wouldn't. Heck think of holding in football, if they called that real tight you'd have holding penalties pretty much every play. |
