If we could have moved Rip, we would have already done so.

We're stuck with Rip for one more year and then we'll make a push for Harden in FA after amnestying Boozer.

Of course everybody will miss Omer's D...but good lord...you'd get the same O production from just about anybody. I'm not so quick to discount Thibs system and plugging in a new piece. Asik just is not worth that kind of quiche...

So in two years...the Rockets will owe Lin and Asik 30 milllion.....

Nice work, Houston.

The Bulls are on the verge of signing Nazr Mohammed, according to a league source.

Mohammed, a 14-year veteran, was also courted by the Nets.

Mohammed's signing seems to indicate the Bulls will not match the three year, $25.1 million dollar offer sheet extended to Omer Asik.

I'm not sure if I'm thrilled about Nazr...but I'm thrilled the Bullies didn't overvalue their own talent and re-sign Omer.

I agree...I like this move.

If we can get Gerald Green at the minimum, all of the sudden I like what we'll have, though the team will be a bit busy.

PG: [Rose]/Hinrich/Teague
SG: Hamilton/Korver/Green
SF: Deng/Butler/Green
PF: Boozer/Gibson/Deng
C : Noah/Asik/Gibson

I was a huge proponent of retooling, but if that roster can hold down the fort until Rose gets back, they might have a punchers chance. They'll need to jettison Asik next year though.

Kirk has gotten a ton of hate on this board and I understand why.

However he hasn't been healthy the past year and that was a big reason why we saw decline. However, they would have paid Watson more next year if they had exercised his option then they'll pay Kirk.....sounds great to me.

KC adds this name to the list.
Here's his career stats.

Bayless can fill it up....but he just gets lost on defense and can't guard a chair.

He doesn't seem like a Tibs guy to me at all.

As for Redd....he may not be bad for the vet minimum and save us some change should we let Korver walk. He also doesn't guard anyone and health is a major factor for him. I've met him a few times personally when he played in Milwaukee and he was a pretty nice guy.

Boozer doesn't get nearly the touches that he ought to based in part on the fact that our point guard passes significantly less than some others and the backups pass even less.

It also doesn't help that Booz isn't a finisher around the rim and gets his layups thrown about as much as anyone.

That's because we don't run a pick & roll or pick & pop to utilize him.

Oh I disagree heavily on that.

Boozer was used heavily in the pick & roll...but he would show the pick & roll and fade to the corner more as it better served Rose. It would give Rose the option to just keep on to the bucket while help would stick to Booz.

The Bulls have used Boozer's talents well offensively....he's just so limited as he's so plodding and getting him the ball on the move is such a waste.

The problem is, the Bulls don't have a dynamic wing to go with Rose. If they had that, Taj would be perfect.

I believe we all agree.

I still believe Taj is a better fit to Noah/Rose than Boozer is.

It isn't that Boozer isn't a quality scorer at times, but the ball just kind of dies with him. We all know how putrid he is defensively.

That's a downgrade if they don't keep Lin, if they somehow keep him perhaps it's a quality mentor.

The Toronto Raptors have acquired guard Kyle Lowry from the Houston Rockets in exchange for forward Gary Forbes and a protected future first-round draft pick, sources tell ESPN.

The Raps also extended a qual offer to Bayless....

What does this mean for Calderon? Calderon and a protected future 1st for Lu would work for me.

He deserves a lot of it. He's a bad defender due to his below average athleticism and he frequently is a non-factor offensively against more athletic teams (see last two playoffs). Granted you can say that about pretty much the entire roster, but most of them aren't making $15 million and supposed to be their #2 scorer.

A guy like Boozer is worth around 10mil/year because of his pick&pop game to go along with his post game.

I believe what Booz got a few years ago is what he cost and I'm fine with that. However, the Bulls didn't entirely know what they had with Gibson (me included) and the Bulls didn't know that Rose was going to be able to go for 30 on any given night that upcoming season. The Bulls also didn't know how elite Tibs would have made them defensively that first year.

With the way the Bulls are built.......Gibson>Boozer

Then they're still sitting there at $55 million or so with no shooting guard on the roster.

That's fine.

A starting lineup of Rose, Keith Bogans type, Lu, Taj and Jo could be elite should we rebuild our bench again through the draft. I feel we're on the right track with the drafting of Teague.

Why would you Amnesty him if it only puts you $4 million below the cap line?

It would still be well worth it and that number would be closer to 9 Mil if they didn't exercise Rip.

If the Bulls just stand pat, let Asik walk, and go into the year after, here's the roster:

PG: Rose, Teague
SG: Hamilton has an option, otherwise, none currently under contract.
C: Noah
SF: Deng, Butler
PF: Boozer

Even if you don't pick up Hamilton's option and don't sign anyone for the MLE this offseason, that's still sitting at close to $60 million...and that winds up with allowing Gibson to walk. If you keep Gibson, based on Asik's deal, that's maybe $8 million right there. So that's the Bulls roster, with enough room to add 1 MLE player and maybe stay under the luxury tax.

That looks a lot worse than what the Bulls ran out there this year. Especially with Boozer a year older, and no obvious shooting guard.

Only thing the Bulls would have to add to that would be a draft pick near #20. It's just a mess.

IF the Bulls amnesty Boozer at the end of this season (they really really really should), re-sign Taj and don't exercise the option on Rip.......the Bulls should be fine.

It's not necessarily killer...but tell me this...what would the Bulls have next year that could possibly get better? About the only guys on the list that could improve are Hamilton, Butler, and Teague. There's not big upside to any of them, and there' significant downside if anyone else gets hurt.

And then what happens next offseason? The same setup...except now the entire remainder of the bench is free agents...including Gibson, who ought to out-earn Asik and who will be even tougher to keep.

If Derrick hadn't gotten hurt, there's good reason to think next year might have been our last legit title shot with this roster. Now without a 100% Rose though...the whole bench is lost and there's little in line to recover from it.

I agree that the Bulls have to be ready to re-tool a bit with what could be a tough year. I still feel the Bulls are over/under 45 wins next year, which should be good enough for the 6 seed. I don't beleive that means next year is a lost cause, but agree it isn't worth going over the luxury tax for, either. Epsecially if it costs us years down the line when Rose will still be in his prime should he fully recover.

I hate seeing Asik walk for nothing, but I don't mind so much on Watson.

The only way this makes sense is if DRose is actually going to be back and near 100% by the time January rolls around, IMO.

I agree.

I don't think its a bad angel to see if Rose comes back in January, the season isn't lost and the wrist isn't excruciating....then fine.

If however they find out Rose won't be back until March at best and the season is already going down the tubes in January he can just have surgery then.

Funny for this to come out AFTER the draft.

Agreed.

There isn't a question the Bulls shopped him as many of us believe if they could have gotten Toronto to absorb his contract for the #8 the Bulls would have done it.

I do believe however if the Bulls would have shopped Deng at all costs they could have moved him for something cheaper, but they didn't.

Regardless.....Gar is full of it.

Barnes would have been a wonderful fit for the Bulls could they have pulled off a move to send Deng to Golden State and take back some salary.

Ah well.
