OK, i started a topic like this before the draft and i thought it'd be interesting to see how draft and free agency changes things

1) Miami 56-26 taking it easy, shaq's on cruise control till playoffs again

2) Bulls 53-29 Wallace changes team's mentality, sweets not spectacular but surprising 10ppg down low off the bench provides enough to keep D's honest along with PJ Brown's 11ppg in AD role

3)Detroit 50-32 To be a running team or not to be? That is the question, it will take all season and they still won't know for sure, but they are flat out more talented than a lot of teams

4) Cleveland 48-34 Rounding out a suprising 3 team central division race that makes headlines all year. Without a better supporting cast cleveland will be stuck as a team with an uneven regular season but scary in the playoffs bc of LBJ

5) Washington 44-38 With their talent at three spots and no upgrades in sight they are stuck as the consistent 5 seed for the 3rd straight year while others move up and down

6) Orlando- 43-39 JJ isn't amazing, and he can't play D, but dwight howard is an all-star and even if tugolu comes back down to earth they have enough to get here with darco and jameer, look out for augistine to have quiet but solid rookie year

7) Milwaukee- 42-40 Villa is a nice piece, but he is still inconsistent, bogut has a nice year, mo williams is a solid pg but tj ford's leadership was underestimated

8) New Jersey 40-42 Jersey is getting old and still hasn't upgraded its frontcourt. SOMEONE from this division will get in, and its Jersey, with the worst record but still getting the 4 seed per the new rules

9) Atlanta 36-46 play well, as joe johnson seems more like a star with a more traditional team around him as opposed to the all 6'8 squad from the past, marvin williams doesnt do too much, and despite being in contention they fall off in the last two weeks of the season due to inexperience

10) Charlotte 34-48-Morrison is ROY just for giving them hope and averaging 14 ppg and 6 rpg

11) Toronto 33-49 Nice pieces, TJ ford plays with fire, but they still dont have a center and Bargs is still stuck getting abused on defense, lining up everywhere from the 3 to the 5

12) Indiana 33-49 BIG FALL for indy, who can't trade its pieces over the summer, bickering begins and roles are unclear, Big Bird trades like a baseball "seller" team at the deadline for contracts and picks

13) Boston- 32-50 Iverson trade doesnt happen and they have three different pgs start throughout year, decent first half but collapse after all star break

14) Philly 29-53 both weber and AI go down for significant injuries, team comes unglued

15) Knicks-26-56 Renaldo Balkman starts more than 10 games, yep. You heard it here first.

It's too early to tell IMHO. I'm going to wait until Free Agency is over.

Record-wise that might be the case, but the playoff seeds can't come out like that. The 3 seed has to come from the Atlantic Division.

New NBA rule starting next year is that three division winners are not top 3 seeds, but rather have to be somewhere in top 4, to eliminate dallas situation

though this still seems like a band aid on the problem, this is david stern's solution

therefore this year it would've been

San Antonio
Dallas
Phoenix
Denver

Detroit
Miami
Cleveland
New Jersey

Oh, missed that change. My bad. I like that move, San Antonio and Dallas in the 2nd round was pretty ridiculous.

Back to the original topic...

I'm not ready to put the Bulls that high yet for a few reasons:

1) I want to see if they make another move for a post scorer. That would help a lot.

2) I want to see if the other Eastern Conference teams do anything. A couple could really move up/solidify their position.

3) They lack a true go-to scorer. Generally teams don't do that well or go very far without one. Maybe it's Gordon, but he's not there yet.

4) They lack of a post scorer really hurts. If their best two players in the post are Wallace and Chandler, that's going to hurt the offense. That puts a lot of pressure on Gordon, Hinrich, Deng, and Nocioni to score, all of whom are a bit streaky.

Right now, I think they're in roughly the same place as Cleveland and Washington. Miami will definitely be the favorite with Wade and Shaq, and Detroit still has a lot of talent. Their offense will improve with McDyess starting instead of Wallace, though obviously their defense will suffer a bit. New Jersey is also still a threat, especially as Kristic continues to develop.

according to the people in detroit they think that they are screwed and will not be good for a while again.

Indy needs to start making wholesale changes. Keep Jermaine and start anew. Yes, even get rid of my boy Spinsley.

I disagree. They still have 4 above average starters, 3 of which were in the All-Star game last year.

I don't get the point of that link at all. It looks like one Nets' fan trying to start spiff, and 3 other guys calling him a moron. huh.gif

As of right now, here's how I would rank the teams. 3-5 are all very similar.

1) Miami. Wade and Shaq can carry them. Even if Shaq misses some time, they can coast for a while.

2) Detroit. I don't see much of a fall. Billups, Hamilton, Prince, and Rasheed are all still very good, and Mohammed and McDyess are both decent as well. If they can add a dangerous guard to come off the bench, they're still a pretty big threat. Defense will obviously slip a bit.

3) Cleveland. About a draw with the Bulls, but Lebron gives them the edge in my book. They can move up or down a bit depending on what happens, but as long as Lebron, Hughes and Ilgauskas are there, they won't fall far. Not very deep, Marshall and Gooden are the only other players I like.

4) Chicago. Solid but not stellar team. Short on post scoring, and no superstars. Highly dependent on perimeter scoring. Great depth.

5) New Jersey. 3 star players and a developing big man. Brutal depth however. They are in serious trouble if Kidd, Carter, Jefferson or Kristic gets hurt.

After that, it's a mess. I'm not even going to try to sort out the rest. This surprises me, but these might be my next two teams:

-Milwaukee. Redd and Simmons are solid and Bogut-Villanueva-Magloire gives them a surprisingly solid frontcourt. Williams has to hold up at the point, and I assume they'll try to deal Magloire.

-Atlanta. I like the Speedy Claxton addition a lot. PG was a big need. Joe Johnson has turned into a stud, Smith, Childress and Williams give them plenty of wing options even if Harrington goes, and they should be better inside after drafting Williams.
