McGraw: Bulls not expected to make a hire until they get a chance to interview Thibodeau.

thibodeau may be new front runner
QUOTE New Orleans’ interest in Tom Thibodeau has caused the Bulls to step up plans to interview the Boston assistant. They are hoping to meet with Thibodeau when the Celtics-Magic playoff series ends, if not sooner.
Some league sources suggest Thibodeau has become the frontrunner for the Bulls job. Ex-Portland and Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks remains a strong candidate, while former Nets coach Lawrence Frank has slipped. The Bulls held informal talks with both Cheeks and Franks this week during the Chicago predraft camp. If any coach is going to get LeBron James’ attention, it might be Thibodeau. He designed the defense that helped Boston eliminate the Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs. The Bulls think they have a chance to sign the two-time MVP as a free agent this summer. |

I have softened on Thibideau. I think he's the right man for the job now. The only thing that worries me is if he's really that good, why has it taken him so long to get a head coaching gig? If he can bring the same type of defense to the Bulls next year, that would be tremendous. And if you look at the Celtics team they really don't have that many great defenders on the team either. You got KG and Perkins who I'd call really good defensive players. Rondo can be exploited because of all the reaching he does and how he plays from behind all the time. Allen and Pierce were never good defenders before KG got there.
So I'm hoping that if he's the man for the job he can change our defense into one of the tops in the league. We have the tools. Joakim is a nice help defender, he's just got to get better at one on one defense in the low post. Rose has the potential to wreck havoc defensively with his quickness and I think Tom could teach him that. We know that Luol is probably the best overall defender on the team and of course Kirk. So all in all we have some good pieces to mask into a elite defensive team. You add Lebron to that and now you're on to something. I just don't want Lawrence Frank, or Mo Cheeks. |

Cheeks and Thibodeau are my current 1 and 2. Phil Jackson would be the pipe-dream #1. Calipari ONLY if Lebron comes.

QUOTE The only thing that worries me is if he's really that good, why has it taken him so long to get a head coaching gig? Well, one reason flat out appears to be that teams don't want to wait to the end of the Finals to interview him. |

If its between here and NO, why on earth would you choose new orleans CP3 is only there another 2 years While I agree that the Bulls job is better... the reason he may choose New Orleans is b/c he'd have a sure head coaching job, whereas with the Bulls he's not guaranteed that since they're taking their time with this process. He's never been a head coach in the Association so I'd almost say he's dumb to not take it if he really has an offer from the Hornets. Why should he wait on Bulls management to figure things out when he could have a head job right now? |

Sun-Times floats former Cavs coach Mike Brown as an option, but wonders whether it'd make sense with the whole LBJ situation.
