CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Monday for throwing his mouthpiece into the stands during a playoff victory over the Miami Heat.

i think 25,000 is a little rediculous, its not that big of a deal, and im sure the fan didnt mind catching it.

Not a big surprise. If it had been James Posey, he would have been sent to Hug Theorapy.

David Stern and Stu Jackson are a bit off on this fine for something that probably did not hurt any one in the stands. I agree with DutheDoduhon21 that the fan who wound up with it was pretty happy. I understand that something must be said about it however, this is just like Brian Urlacher's $100k fine for wearing a non NFL sponsor cap to media day at SuperBowl XLI. The leagues needs to pay attention to what the offense is and punish accordingly. $25k for throwing a mouth piece is ridiculous.

When a 12 year old kid ends up with herpes of the eye after getting nailed by saliva covered chunk of plastic, you'll change your tune.

Did not know that Hinrich has herpes. Not something that most of us are aware of. Interesting insight that you have on this TeaLeafReaderII.

I dont care if its Michael Jordan, I dont really want someone's spit on me. Hinrich deserves this fine, no reason to throw your mouth guard at the fans, if anything do it on the road not home. Not 2 mention it gave the Heat an extra point...

In all fairness, I do not think he meant to throw it into the stands. Oh well whatever done is done, he got fined, move on. At least they didnt suspend him like Haslem, then again Haslem did throw his at Joey Crawford I believe. We all know Hinrich can get fiesty at times...I expect him to bounce back in Game 2.

So did Shaq get fined for blasting the refs?...specifically calling one out by name. Thought that was a no-no. Geez-us...the dude thinks he should just be able to bowl people over because he's big. I'd love to see Ben clock his ass tonight.

Shaq will be fined, just a matter of time. Even Duncan got fined for badmouthing Crawford.

Usually don't they do those before the next game if they're going to do them in the playoffs?

Despite calling out eddie rush, it doesnt appear that shaq is going to be fined

I think thats ridiculous but if that cancels out the bad karma from kirk dodging a suspension ill take it

And rightfully so. Critisizing NBA refs is an automatic fine, or at least it is supposed to be...

It just goes to prove that if you are a legitimate star in the NBA, you tend to get away with much more. That is one of the reasons that people have told me that they hate Michael as well. It is interesting that David Stern continues to play favorites versus being consistently level with all players. Shaq should be fined and definitely will not. I still think that the $25k is a bit steep as it is ridiculous.
