I think deng is going to have a big year no matter what offense we run. i forget where i saw it but thibodeau said he's going to actually use dengs strengths in the offense instead of having him stand around the perimeter

That IS his strength. Standing around and hitting mid range jumpers. He can't really create his own shot consistently. He doesn't take it to the rim often. I don't know if I've ever even seen him pump fake. He can't hit the 3 consistently.

Batum/Fernandez/Przybilla & either Cunningham or Pendergraph for Deng/Gibson & a future 1st.

Bulls should be all over this one. I know we'd be giving up Deng & Taj who are both high quality players but this deal clears up future cap space while also giving us 2 young studs & another very nice defensive big man. The Bulls reportedly tried to trade Deng for Przybilla and someone last year so the deal makes sense. I know that the Blazers value Batum pretty high and righfully so but maybe Deng/Gibson & a 1st makes them willing to part with him.

I think Batum fits our system much better than Deng. Batum is a defensive player that is very unselfish. Him and Brewer on our team would be very nice. Plus Batum hits the 3 at a very nice %. He's not a chucker but he is an unselfish reliable shooter who would fit nicely in our system. I think he's capable of guarding 3's and 2's which is also a nice thing to have. He might even be able to play some 4 when we want to go small.

Noah/Przybilla/Asik/
Boozer/Asik
Batum/Korver
Rudy/Brewer/Korver/
Rose/Watson

If we make this deal I think we then go out and sign a backup 4 and we end our great offseason makeover.

This deal might not happen before the season but if Rudy stays on Portland during the 1st half (which doesn't seem likely at this point) I think a deal b/w the Bulls and Blazers becomes a lot easier b/c then they can add players like Kurt Thomas, Watson, Brewer, Korver into the mix and I'm sure they can find a package that works for the Blazers that includes Deng.

Put down the XBox controller. That deal is so insanely in the Bulls favor it's funny. We give them an overpaid SF for their young star SF who actually has range, and we give them a backup PF and a 1st for Rudy and a backup C?

The Blazers turned down the 4th overall pick for Batum. He's 21 and they love him.

If he's talking win % it's 30 points which is .500 + .300 = .80 = 66 wins. But I don't think he literally meant 66 wins just that we would be significantly better with all of our additions (Boozer being the main one) + him

That doesn't make sense.

And either way, we all know you're McGrady's #1 fan. I'm not really against it, but I don't love it.

I think he's talking win percentage. He is confident in his abilities and I think he is saying that with adding Boozer and a healthy T-Mac they'd be close to a 80% winning percentage (above 60 wins). If T-Mac is anything close to what he used to be that is a for sure possibility.

I think T-Mac is saying that he's willing to come off the bench but that he also does not think that should be a given. He wants to compete for the starting job. I would too if I were once an all-star and had to compete against Brewer/Korver/Deng for a starting spot.

All of you act like T-Mac's career is for sure over and that you only want him if he is a bench player. His career may very well be over but we should want him to compete to become a starter b/c at the very least it will make everyone play that much harder. We don't have a for sure SG and Deng isn't that reliable on the injury front either so T-Mac if he's healthier should be able to at least battle for the starting SG spot and hopefully he's good enough to battle for minutes at SF.

T-Mac had a bad year last year but he was just coming off a major surgery. Players have bounced back from such injuries in the past and if he is working out as he indicates he is it is likely that he should have more movement/athleticism this year. Will he ever be the T-Mac of old? Probably not. But if he is healthier and more mobile there he probably is a more well rounder scorer/passer than any SG on our roster. Bring him in with the understanding that he is a bench player but don't rule out the possibility of him becoming a starter if he proves he deserves it. The last thing you need is for him to outplay Brewer/Korver (both bench talents) and then not get a chance to become a starter.

If he's talking win %, that's .530, which is 43 1/2 wins.

I wouldn't read too much into that. There was a lot of hype on how Rose "didn't recruit" LBJ when in fact he texted LBJ and they spoke the night after the Cavs were bounced by the Celtics. Rose played that situation as well as anyone could have IMO.

Rose's relationship with LBJ won't change regardless of what happened in FA....which shows how cool of a guy Rose is.

It has nothing to do with recruiting and everything to do with him understanding his status as a budding superstar in the NBA. It looks goofy for someone to come out and say that. Ya, I know he's 21, but seriously. It's just weird. I want my leader to try and be better than all of his favorites. Not be wowed by the possibility of playing with them.

The team pace of the Jazz is pretty much identical to that of the Bulls over the last three years, and they scored quite a bit better at that pace (106, 104 and 104 PPG those years). I wouldn't expect much of an increase either as every staff Thibodeau has been a part of has played at a significantly slower pace than the Bulls have of late.

Thibodeau has also been an almost exclusive defensive assistant on all those staffs. Are you saying you think the Bulls will be a half-court team?

Yeah, I have a real hard time seeing Rose not take a giant leap with the depth of this roster.

I DID find a comment on CSN Chicago last night rather comical. It went something like "and with a point guard like Derrick Rose to distribute the ball, Ronnie Brewer's point totals could take off."

Right... because he didn't play with Deron Williams!

Whoever wrote that didn't really think that one through. But the Jazz are/were a half-court team. The Bulls are a transition team. I fully expect Brewer's scoring to increase.

Sam Smith: It's All Those Jazz! Bulls have their starting two guard as NBA sources say they agree to $12.5 million three-year deal with Ronnie Brewer

Currently under contract with the Bulls:

Rose
Brewer
Deng/Korver/Johnson
Boozer/Gibson
Noah/Asik

Marc Spears from Yahoo! Sports reports that Brewer turned down an offer from Boston because of the likelihood of him starting in Chicago.

"I got an opportunity to start (in Chi). Both (Chi and Bos) are storied programs. It came down to where I could excel more," Brewer told Y!. Brewer says Celtics offered similar $, but starting & re-joining Utah teammates Boozer, Korver were main draw. Utah never made strong run.

And apparently Derrick Rose is the ONLY Bull under contract under 6'7.

According to Frank Isola of the NY Daily News, there are 5 teams that Rudy Fernandez would accept a trade to: CHI, NY, NJ, BOS, and MIA.

I'd really like Will Bynum but it seems like DET will re-sign him. Some good vets available at PG though in Williams, Tinsley, Earl Watson, Johnson, Arroyo, and Alston.

With Redick, give me Brewer, just about any PG, and re-sign Brad Miller.

If Redick is matched, I want Brewer, Barnes, just about any PG and Miller.

From what I read, the Magic actually have to pay $14 million to match the Bulls' $7 million offer because they are in the luxury tax. That makes this interesting.

Yup, the Bulls front-loaded the deal to make it harder for the Magic to match.

Bulls are the last team to meet with Bosh (some time this afternoon) and have already met with Boozer. Lebron meets with CLE tomorrow at 11 AM and the Bulls tomorrow at 2:30. We're batting clean up, hopefully that gives us the best shot and the presentation that resonates with him most. Our guys will always be freshest in his mind when he mulls it over, if he hasn't decided already.

Toronto wants a $16 million trade exception and a 1st round pick for Bosh.
