Gibson appears to be a Tyrus clone with a little better outside touch. Perhaps he makes Tyrus expendable if a trade comes up.

Gibson isn't in the same stratosphere as Tyrus athletically. His max vertical at the combine was only 30 inches (one of the worst in the class), and his no-step vert was only 25 1/2 inches. Tyrus was at a 34 no-step and a 39 1/2 max. Gibson also tested as one of the slowest and least agile players in the draft.

So basically he's a 6'9 3/4" big man with below average athleticism that is currently 3rd on our depth chart at PF. He's not THAT great a shooter either, if he were he'd probably shoot way better than the low-to-mid 60's from the line.

Taking a guard with that pick made FAR more sense since you knew there was a possibility that Gordon could leave and you have basically no backup wing players now.

I do like Johnson a lot though, a guy with his upside at 16 in this draft is a nice addition.

i dont get it, hes going to be the 6th man on a team that is no where near as good as it was, and be on a team that doesnt have a coach yet. so i guess the i love my teammates, the fans, and the city and wanting to stay in chicago was a joke. im disappointed that the bulls didnt even get an offer in. it really stinks that BG is leaving, that leaves a huge whole in the team. not only does it hurt that hes leaving but its even worse that hes going to detroit. thanks for all the memories BG.

what BG had to say from mouthpiece
QUOTE
He's a Chicago Bull no more. On the first day of free agency Ben Gordon has left Chicago agreeing to a five-year deal with the Detroit Pistons. For the super scorer it was a no brainer. "It was an easy decision. I went to visit and speaking with (Pistons GM) Joe Dumars I liked everything he had to say, I like everything the organization stands for...they're all about winning and I want that too" Gordon stated over the phone. "Joe exudes that (winning) he eats, sleeps and breathes basketball and that's an organization I need to be a part of."
After rejecting offers from the Bulls the past two summers, Gordon was able to sit back and relax the third time around knowing there was interest from winning teams. "It hasn't really been tough," Gordon told me "after going through what I did last summer this was easier and it came pretty quickly. I am very happy with my decision."

"For my true fans, there will always be a special place in my heart for Chicago. The city has some of the best fans in the world and I truly enjoyed my time here. It's just time to move on."
Gordon, who was selected third in the 2004 draft, can't officially sign with the Pistons until July 8th . He led the Bulls in scoring each of the past 4 seasons and averages just over 18 points a game for his career.

Blah blah blah. If he wanted to stay, he'd give them a chance to match and not take the 1st deal Detroit gave him.

maybe it's just me, but whenever i hear tyrus say something or read a quote from him it always turns into "i'm just into the free money"

anyways, i think the pistons are right up there with the cavs in terms of teams i hate the most... so i hope BG gets his ass handed to him whenever we play him

Our direct avoidance of the luxury tax in getting a player who would have helped BG immensely like Pau Gasol pretty much confirms that statement. He's not saying anything wrong.

The more I think about how this all went down, the more I wish somebody could run into a dark room and shoot Jerry Reinsdorf in the back of the head. God when are we ever going to get an owner that is serious about putting together a team? I've said this a few hundred times but he needs to get out of basketball. He needs to stick with baseball and that stupid NHL franchise he's planning to buy. (I know this will never happen but I just feel better saying it..)

It seems Gordon's comments were directly related towards the fans being cheated by Reinsdorf.

QUOTE
"To the fans, I generally had a great time being here," Gordon said in a phone interview. "For my true fans, I feel bad for them. The longtime fans of the Chicago Bulls - I just felt like they're being cheated.

"Not with me, but just things that happened in the past. I feel like the fans deserve a lot better."

Gordon didn't give any specific examples. Like most professional sports teams, the Bulls have made some moves that worked well and others that didn't.

That's what it sounds like to me. They were cheated b/c the Bulls basically traded Tyson Chandler for nothing just to save money. They were cheated b/c the Bulls rufused to pay BG. They were cheated when they brought in Skiles and then replaced him with a coach with no experience. They were cheated when they had Tyson & Curry and no true big man coach to help the players grow. They were cheated when they didn't make the trade for Gasol/Amare/etc. They were cheated when they drafted two more PF's (a very questionable pick in Taj who has direct links to Floyd and Floyd is Gar's good friend). They were cheated with the 30% ticket price hike after a losing season.

The Bulls have been cheated by JR every since he caused the breakup of the greatest basketball team in history. JR never gave Pippen the raise he deserves and only gave Jordan the money after Jordan retired b/c he knew there is no way he could say no to Jordan coming back. If he would have told the city that he couldn't agree to a price for Jordan to come back the city would have revolted. Jerry spends when he has to not when he needs to. It's been a constant theme and unfortunately I don't see that ever changing.

And most of all we were cheated when we payed Kirk (and still haven't traded him) and payed Deng more than we offered BG.

Blaming JR for everything is getting tired. It's not like they're the Grizzlies rolling out a $40 mil payroll, they've been over the cap for several years. The problem is they're spending money in ways that end up backfiring, that's a basketball/management issue. The luxury tax thing sucks as a fan, but I can't totally blame him for not throwing more money at a decent but not stellar team. We are talking about an owner that paid one guy over $30 mil a year, I'm relatively confident if they feel they have a team that can win a title the money will be there. Recently that hasn't been the case though, the moves that they declined MAYBE get them to the conference finals, more likely into the second round.

And they "didn't give Pippen a raise" because he signed a ridiculously long term deal early in his career before salaries exploded. Reinsdorf supposedly advised him against it, but he wanted long-term security. Also, Jackson leaving was the reason that they dynasty broke up, it's debateable as to how much of that was clashing with management and how much was him not wanting to coach anymore at the time.

BG is right, there are alot of things the bulls should have done differently. he was always good to the fans, im not mad at him for leaving, the bulls never intended on signing him he did what he needed to do. i know when he comes back to the UC he will get a warm welcome.

It has all been JR's fault. I used to think it was Krause but then JK left and the problems in managing the Bulls, trading, signing players all continued. The Bulls don't make trades to improve. They make financially motivated trades. That's it.

Not everything is financially motivated, we're not in Memphis for christ's sake. If that were the case Chandler never would have even been re-signed in the first place, Ben Wallace never would have come here, Hinrich and Deng never would have had their long term deals, and Salmons and Miller would still be in Sacramento. There's no doubt that they've spent it poorly the majority of the time, but they're still spending money.
