JJ already is way ahead of Tyrus perimeter skills wise and also isn't rail thin and too light to bang with the big boys like TT was and for the most part still is.

I hate to say it but he's built like Lebron. He's 6'8 260 and he runs and dribbles like a guard. He's a point forward who could play full time pf in a pinch. DO NOT read that as me saying JJ could be Lebron. He just has a similar body type. But, a (much much much much much) lower ceiling of Lebron--an athletic combo forward good for some sportscenter type plays every night.

He plays too fast right now. Or too tentatively. He's thinking too much sometimes. But usually not enoug. I think he's gonna need a summer or two of work to get his game even remotely into shape, but he still could give us something now. You can't teach size, or so they say.

Great trades by the bulls the at the deadline. They weren't going to resign TT and they got a draft pick and got rid of Salmon's 5.8 mil WHILE replacing them in the rotation with guys who do so ALMOST (see below) seamlessly.

Warrick really is a wash with TT if you consider his consistency a trade off for the blocks and steals that made TT the occasional game changer.

Murray really is a solid 3rd guard who can do 75% of what Salmons has been doing, BUT I was a little dismayed to see him backing up Luol as well last night against the Twolves.

This gave me nightmares of the 3 small guard line ups of last year and teams scoring at will on us...

Flip is big enough to play the two barely, and Devin Brown can always play in a pinch if a bigger SG is bothering us, BUT, again, neither is big enough to play the 3. (and DB can't shoot...)

Enter James Johnson.

IF he could earn those back up sf minutes, we'd be a lot bigger which would be nice considering we have decided to basically ALWAYS be small at SG from here on out. (Or play DB...who can't shoot)

JJ has been unable to get in a rhythm all season. Appearing quite lost even. But he has shown the athleticism and he showed in summer league and college even that he has the potential to be one of the FEW players who could D up lebron (same size 6"8-260 and crazy athletic) AND play the increasingly important stretch 4 (not a bad weak side blocker the few times he's played down low, if you've noticed).

IF JJ could develop a Deng/JJ rotation would be perfect to compete agst Lebron for the forseable E.C. Finals (Doubt he's coming).

JJ needs to earn these minutes in practice b/c he looks outa the rotation now...as a backup sf and back up or 3rd pf he could be a vital cog on a championship team two years from now if we do even decently in free agency this summer.

SO....wouldn't it be nice if he could use the opportunity that flip and Devin are both too short to play sf? I am sure Vinny is gonna give him at least a little burn soon...he's gonna have to play really well to warrant a bigger look. Let's hope he does.

Oh yeah, If he doesn't step up, it'll only mean more pressure on Rose to score every play and regress as a play maker (Or at least not PROGRESS as he hasn't done this this year in the way he has with scoring). Or, worst case, we just slide out of the playoffs altogether.

you'll see Deng (too slow) first and then Salmons (too small, too slow) on KD i think. BUT I would be much more excited to see TT or JJ try to guard him. Both guys are essentially his size and can play at his speed, but both are much stronger than him.

Von Wafer is simply not a "put you over the top" level player. And YOU personally would not walk away from 8 million dollars A YEAR in your pocket, no matter who you are, if the difference is really Pargo versus Von Wafer.

Pargo has always looked like a poor man's Ben Gordon. We just need someone to come in and shoot 3s if Kirk/Salmons get hurt.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 3 2009, 12:53 PM) *
The Bulls best scenario is the stand pat. With soo much salary coming off the books after this season, the Bulls could offer 2 max contracts next summer.

Here is your 2010 Bulls under contract:

SF Luol Deng: 11.3 million
G Kirk Hinrich: 9 million
G/F John Salmons: 5.8 million
PG Derek Rose: 5.5 million
PF Tyrus Thomas: 6.2 million
C Joakim Noah: 3.1 million
F Taj Gibson: 1.0 million
F James Johnson: 1.4 million

= $28.4 million

Last time I checked 11.3+9+5.8+5.5+6.2+3.1+1+1.4 = 43.3 million NOT 28.4 million. We can offer one max contract.

And it's true, these guys all want to play together, but of Dwade and Bosh only one of them can either join Lebron in Cleveland or New York. And that doesn't even mention Amare. What if Boozer has a good year? He's in that class now too. He's at least not a bad 4th option for a little less $.

But besides lebron and each other, the #1 guy these guys are going to want to play with is Derrick Rose. Especially on an up and coming Bulls team in the East. Let's be serious, John Salmons is a 6'6' athletic wing player who shot almost 42% on threes last year. HE CAN PLAY SHOOTING GUARD. And Kirk was the starting two guard essentially for three decent playoff teams. HE'LL BE FINE AS A BACKUP SHOOTING GUARD. He also shoots a pretty good 3 ball. We lose BGs flare sure, but we are way better in defense, turnovers, matchup exploitation etc for 37 more minutes a game then we were last year. We won't need all those last minute heroics.

I'm not saying we're going to be awesome next year, but to lure ONE of bosh, wade or amare, we just have to outplay Toronto and Miami next season. We can do that. That's not gonna be that hard.

BG's problem is his biggest weakness is his biggest strength. He decides that he's going to dominate a game, going to shoot no matter what. When he's on, he's one of if not the biggest reason we'll win (see the dallas game). When he's not, he has the same poor shot selection and he can blow a game for us.

His turnovers are down this year. This is no doubt due to the number of times he drives to the hoop and either makes a shot or gets a foul called instead of turning it over.

But he almost blew the indiana game for the exact same reasons that he won us the dallas game. Every time we started to pull away, he'd start launching bad jumpers and driving into an overcrowded lane. He kept them in the game.

This year he has to start though, because he will win some games for us all by himself. It's just too bad he can't restrain himself on an off night.

I think when it comes down to it, everyone on the team already knows Rose is the best player on the team, and they're figuring out how to play off of him (look at Noc, who's thriving, and Luol is coming around). BG, though, still acts like he is our MJ/Kobe/Tmac/whatever. Not good for the team.

I never thought I'd be glad to see Larry Hughes. Never. But...

WE GOT OUR STARTING 5...for tonight

QUOTE
Del Negro names Sefolosha starter for opener

As previously reported, Thabo Sefolosha will start alongside Derrick Rose in the Bulls' season-opener Tuesday against Milwaukee.

Coach Vinny Del Negro said his other starters are Luol Deng and Tyrus Thomas at forward and Drew Gooden at center

"I just felt it gave us some good size in the backcourt," Del Negro said. "We needed Kirk to run the second team for us. I thought the balance for right now made sense. As I've said all along, that is subject to change."

Sefolosha took the opportunity in stride.

"I've always felt more comfortable starting," Sefolosha said. "My focus is right from the start. I'm into the game."

Del Negro also announced Gooden, Deng and Hinrich will serve as team captains.

Well Well. I actually really like this lineup. Real good size everywhere except center, everyone can score, the only issue will be outside shooting. If Thabo can be at least decent in this regard, this could be a great lineup for fast past offense from nasty defense.

And I like Krich as the best back up pg in the league. He seems to play harder when he comes off the bench.

I get it in terms of cap space, but who exactly are the point guards on the bulls? Assuming one of BG/Kirk is traded and the other will back-up Rose (which is exactly why we should sign and trade Bg instead of trading Kirk), who's our 3rd pg? What if one of our two pgs turns an ankle and misses a week? A month? I thought JamesOn was at least solid enough during summer league to warrant a look as a 3rd/emergency pg as a 14th or 15th man on the bench. Especially for 250K for the season.

Du has an expiring contract, pg is a premium position is this league and we aren't gonna pay him more than his current salary to stay...he's as good as gone

Whoever compared Gordon to Ray Allen was spot on. What good is a SG who can score 20-25ppg if because of their D they are responsible for giving up 25-30?

I would rather have pretty good scoring and great D than very good scoring and piss poor D out of that backcourt spot, especially with Kirk being able to handle some of the backcourt's scoring burden.

Given a full season together I would expect Kirk to at least get back to his 16-17 ppg with Thabo able to get 14-15 too...and be one of the top defensive backcourts in the league. Bring me a 6'5 true combo guard off the bench and I think we're good.

Joe smith is good. Too good for this team. He is effective enough to limit the young guys' minutes, and that doesn't work for the direction Pax is taking the team in. He needs to know exactly what he has in his young players before remaking the team this summer. It's one reason I think thabo will continue to start unless Hughes just completely outplays him.

next year

3 guard rotation with kirk, hughes, and thabo. Now you always have a big guard, always have a good scorer out there.

Let Duhon's contract expire and sign and trade BG.

NEXT YEAR
Kirk/hughes/JamesOn(?)
Thabo/hughes
Deng/Noc
Gooden/TT
Noah/Grey

I like.

The rest of this year....
we have a pretty severe log jam

Victory in this game = Noah outplaying Tyson when they are going head to head

At least that would make me FEEL a whole lot better, because the chances of an outright victory are slim to none

This is from ESPN's Chris Sheridan:

QUOTE
• The Chicago Bulls are being described as "all over the map" in their trade talks. In addition to trying to move Ben Wallace, one source said the Bulls are now "as open as they've ever been" to trading Ben Gordon. Discussions recently broke down between the Bulls and Hornets over a deal that would have sent shooter Rasual Butler to Chicago.

AK-47 a small forward?

Is that why everyone always talks about his jump shot and his ability to create a shot off the dribble?

Nope. Everyone talks about him being on the trading block and unhappy because he's playing OUT OF POSITION in Utah.

He's not a small forward. He's a power forward. Otherwise everything would be a-ok in Utah-land. His best attributes are his ability to dominate a game with blocks, steals, and boards and provide hustle points around the basket or in transition. He has a reliable jump shot, but he doesn't handle very well. He doesn't slash to the rim.

If we could get him, he is immediately our starting pf. He's been an all-star as a full time pf...in the west! He led terrible Utah teams to the playoffs. We would also we THE BEST defensive team in the league next year:

Hinrich
Sef
Deng
AK47
Noah
-------imagine the pick and roll defense as well as the turnover forcing creating tons of transition opportunities

Bench:
Gordon (he'll end up signing the 1 year tender, it just feels like a done deal right now)
TT
Noc
Smith
Gray

I like.

The only reason I can think of for doing so would be if the Bulls had some need for the roster spot.

exactly---for a trade? Is that why BG sat? I don't think so, but we have to hope.

Gordon and spiff for Jermaine O'neal? Please...

FWIW I believe it was a 1.9 million expiring contract. Du's is the one around 3. (3.26 million i believe)

There is no reason to buy him out before the trading deadline, especially considering the onslaught of injuries we have had. Without Deng or BG or Kirk thabo is super taxed and we could've used Vic which would have served us even more by showcasing him a bit for a trade.

They are shopping shaq and he is one of the few available low post scorers who could be had without trading away too many big pieces.

A trade could motivate him to at least not suck. And not sucking is something we could use right now.

the TRUTH is that Gasol is exactly 0-8 in playoff games.

the TRUTH is that Gasol's teams were of a similar make up with quality role players (Miller, Stoudmire, battier) but no other star

the TRUTH is that Paxson made a better offer for KG than the Celtics did.

but...

the TRUTH is that Paxson could have EASILY beat the Lakers offer without gutting our team.

FWIW if a 15 yr younger Jordan were on this team they'd be favorites to come out of the east...

not that that should be interpreted as a compliment to anyone currently on this "team"
