Rookie forward Tyrus Thomas went to the Bulls brass recently and asked if there was a way he could contact Scottie Pippen. Quicker than you could say ''Bulls legend,'' Thomas had Pippen on the phone.
The two have become fast friends, to the point that Pippen has been working with Thomas after the team's practices at the Berto Center the last few days.

''Just working on my overall game,'' Thomas said. ''On and off the court, he's just being a mentor. I call him and talk to him about basketball, life.''

Bulls operations chief John Paxson is happy Thomas reached out to Pippen, whom Paxson said would make an excellent coach.

Thomas, 20, admitted initially being in awe when working with Pippen.

''At first, it was crazy,'' Thomas said. ''But this is the [NBA] life, I'm amongst the elite. So I just try to live my life like that and am trying to get my game to be better so I can be mentioned as one of the elite of the elite.''

i think its awesome that tyrus is working with pippen, that explains why he has been at alot of games lately, more than usuall. might be the reason hes been playing really good lately too? huh.gif

I really like this kids work ethic. He is going to do big things in this league. And Pip is just the man to show him the road. bullssmilie1.jpg

Great news. Pippen is my favorite player of all time. Hopefully some of his skills can help Thomas into a great all around athletic player.

I love Pippen too, but you couldn't POSSIBLY like him more than

Relax, and focus. Once Tyrus learns those two lessons, he is going to be a beast.

I absolutely love Tyrus' work ethic. The kid has a great attitude and because of that I think he'll be able to put in the work necessary to get him to reach his potential (which is very very high).

I'm also real glad Pippen has become more involved with the organization. He's a very very smart basketball guy and a good individual (despite a few bouts with management) and I think he can do a lot of good being involved in things.

Really? Hmm, that doesn't surprise me. MJ is a very quiet guy, but still, that does suck. I've met him numerous times because my family was friend to his mother-in-law (who sadly passed away this time last year).

What area do you think he will help Tyrus in most, offense or defense?

I recall Charles Barkely saying that MJ was one of the cheapest guys he'd ever met. FWIW.

Barkely must have never hung out with Jordan at a casino.

Probably both, but as Southsider2k5 said, I think the intangible stuff is what he will help him the most with. Focusing, not being overwhelmed. That sort of stuff.

That's good to hear, but will Tyrus be a Bulls long enough to benifit from it?

Thomas isn't going anywhere soon. The only way that might change is if Durant falls to the Bulls in the draft.
