Checking out Wallace's Defensive stats, he is in the Top 10 in most categories. What do you think his chances of another DPOY award is?

Rebounds - 6th
Offensive Rebounds - 2nd
Blocks - 8th
Steals - 12th

Bulls Team - 6th in Pts against, 2nd in FG PCT against

He has a shot but he has a lot of competition (garnett, camby, okafor, chandler (OMG), Marion etc) We shall see.

He won't place in the top 5. Everyone has talked about what a disappointment he has been this year, and he hasn't gotten any good publicity.
Chicago Bulls Franchise
He is my choice for DPOY without a doubt. He brings something to the table no one else does. He is quick enough to get a steal and strong enough to defend the best. There aren't many who have the same characteristics Big Ben does. Plus he has the credibility as a 4 time (I think) defensive player of the year.

Probably won't get it. It took him a little longer to adjust to the Bulls defensive system (or vice versa?) than it should have. That slow start shouldn't earn a defensive player of the year award. He's come on strong at the end of the season, though. Be interesting to see what he brings to the team in the post-season.

IMO the two best defensive players this year have been Marcus Camby and Shawn Marion.

However, as they are part of two of the worst defensive teams in the league, i dont see either of them getting the award

The Spurs are one of (if not the) best defensive teams in the league and i think either duncan or bowen is deserving of it this year. Duncan especially for this year (what a difference not struggling all year with plantar fascitis makes) and Bowen more for career service and never getting the award.

The other top defensive teams are Bulls, rockets and pistons IMO and none of them have one single player that deserves the award, as they are excellent "team" defenders.

The guys that come the closest are big ben and mutombo, but they both have enough DPOY trophies that they wont be considered.

Hinrich, Tyrus, and Sefolosha all look like future possible winners (as well as Oden......please please please...) and that means we should continue to dominate games with sound team defense for the next decade if we play our cards right.

Sorry for all you guys holding out that small hope that Wallace would win DPOY.

[quote] Report: Camby named NBA's top defensive player
ESPN.com news services

Marcus Camby stayed healthy and in the Denver Nuggets' everyday lineup this season, and now he's about to be recognized as the NBA's top defensive player for 2006-07.

The Nuggets' center will be named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year, The Denver Post is reporting on its Web site. The official announcement is expected Friday afternoon.

Camby, an 11-year veteran, averaged a league-best 3.3 blocked shots, 1.2 steals and a double-double -- 11.6 rebounds and 11.2 points.

Camby breaks Ben Wallace's stranglehold on the award. Wallace, the Chicago Bulls' center, won the past two and four of the past five as a Detroit Pistons.

It wasn't Camby's best defensive season statistically, but the strength of those numbers overall put him alongside Dikembe Mutombo (1995) as the only Nugget to be named defensive player of the year.

"It would be the greatest award I've received, other than college player of the year [at the University of Massachusetts in 1996]," Camby told The Post in a telephone interview Thursday. "There are so many great people that won the award."

NBA commissioner David Stern is expected to give Camby the award prior to Game 3 Saturday night against San Antonio in Denver, The Post reports. [quote]

I can respect Camby winning the award this year. Its took bad there isn't a team award, because no team in the NBA plays better defense than we do.

Its kinda upsetting becasue a lot of what Wallace (and many others do) cannot be measured. I think in those terms, camby is not too hot. I read a lot that he is quite lazy in many areas that the nuggets could use his help. His raw blocking ability is amazing tho. I see Tyrus being a very good contender for this in the future.
