Jermaine Oneal would be a great addition, his only problem is the durability. Will he be healthy for a full season + playoffs? If so then Im all for JO, problem is we don't know making the trade that much more risky.

I love the Tyrus logo. Can you send me a larger version of it? You can just post it here. Thanks.

KG to LA talks dead, 3-way between PHX, MIN, and BOS.

Suns, Wolves & Celtics Discussing Blockbuster
June 27, 2007 - 12:03 am
ESPN.com -
Jim Gray reported Tuesday night that a new trade is brewing which would make Kevin Garnett a member of the Phoenix Suns .

The Suns, Timberwolves and Celtics are discussing a trade that would see the Suns get Garnett, the Celtics land Shawn Marion, and the Wolves acquire Boston's fifth pick as well as a number of unnamed players.

Earlier in the day, Ric Bucher reported that the Lakers' talks with the Wolves about Garnett had fallen apart.

The current blockbuster depends on whether Marion would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics. Marion can opt out of his contract after next season. According to Gray, the Suns have already spoken to Marion about the potential trade

Kobe to the Bulls now looks a bit more promising.

I do agree about keeping Deng, but I cant help but think including him would get the deal done. Mchale would love to have deng. Maybe not as much as al jefferson, but he'd rather have deng than anyone else on either ours or boston's rosters besides al.

So it comes down to this. Yes. I like Deng better than Oneal. But it comes down to the VORP (value of replacement player) This was talked about when we were looking at getting pau.

Next year, Nocioni and Sefolosha can give you at least 75% of what you got from deng. Jermaine Oneal is a hell of an upgrade over PJ brown.

I tend to agree with you about not giving up deng, but it has to be something for Paxson to consider

Pau is younger, cheaper, more durable, and arguably better at this point than O'Neal though. I'd feel a bit better about that one, though I still wouldn't really endorse it.

Just for fun, the PER ratings this year from Hollinger, which measure the value that these respective guys give you when they're on the floor:

Gasol- 24.22, good for 7th in the league (his time off arguably inflated that just a tad, smaller sample size)

O'Neal- 18.86

Deng- 18.79

Pau has him beat in the durability department (save the one major injury last summer which he came back from pretty fast considerng)

Offensively id give pau a slight edge over JO

But defensively, its not even close. JO can anchor a defense. His name was getting thrown around as DPOY a little even. He can effectively guard probably every 4 and 5 in the league. You want to beat TD in the finals, imagine being able to throw Bwall, JO, and TT at him.

Yeah, defense is the one weak spot. The durability is a huge one IMO though, and as you said at the end, we already have Wallace and Tyrus, so I'm not as worried about the D as the scoring. You can always just stick Pau on the other post player, we're paying Wallace to be the defensive stopper.

If it came down to similar trade packages for Gasol or JO, I'd take Gasol for sure. He's younger, a better offensive player, and though his D isn't that good, we have Wallace and TT to take care of that. The talk in Memphis is that he'd be so much better if Memphis could ever find a defensive-minded big man to take pressure off Gasol having to guard the likes of Tim Duncan, Amare Stoudemire, etc. in every game the Grizzlies play. Well, we have that on the Bulls, so he'd have less pressure to perform defensively, which in turn would make his play better overall.
