Just occurred to me, the Celtics still have a tradeable contract in Theo Ratliff. Ainge HAS to be looking to move Pierce. There's no other explanation. No way, it's the opposite actually. What the hell would be the point of getting Allen if you're going to trade Pierce for young guys? They're clearly trying to win now with those guys, which actually isn't a terrible plan with Rondo/Jefferson/Green/Gomes/Allen developing around them, assuming of course Pierce and Allen can co-exist... |

Nice pick for Portland, I hate McRoberts but that is solid value Exactly. He may not have been a great early/mid 1st rounder, but I think he has great value as a 2nd rounder. Heck, even if a team had gotten him at like 26 or 27, I would have said it was a good value pick. |

I think they plan on moving Pierce for Jermaine O'Neal or some other type of major impact big man (think of a good big with Jefferson and Ray allen....not bad). |

I don't buy that for a second. Yeah...they are fat. Davis still has great footwork, touch, and post moves. He also has a much higher motor than Sweetney. Yeah, but Sweetney was a Top 10 pick b/c he showed similar skills in college, which is why I think people are scared of Davis. |

But Sweetney is also in much worse shape than Davis in terms of up and down the court and not getting gassed every 12 seconds. A Sweetney that can stay on the court for extended periods of time in the 2nd round? Sign me up. |

Okay, but why the hell would Indiana do that (or Memphis, or Minnesota)? You're just trading one guy that can't carry a franchise for another, only Pierce is older and a guard. Anyone that has a post player that they'd deal will want young pieces, not an expensive vet like Pierce. |

Anyway, I would have been happy with Davis. I'm just trying to play Devil's Advocate about why he isn't that much of a loss. |

That third team could be the Lakers and who knows, maybe a 4th would even be involved with Pierce eventually replacing Kobe in LA and the Bulls picking up Kobe. I'm just saying I'd be stunned if Pierce is wearing a Celtics uni next year. Just like I'd be stunned to see all those bigs on Portland at the start of the season. |

I agree on the latter point, but Pierce was the one demanding a trade for a veteran, while Ainge was the one saying that #5 wasn't going anywhere. If Pierce were really on his way out, they'd have almost certainly used the pick to take either Brewer or Yi and keep accumulating young assets like he's done the last several years. |
